It has been this way since 1972. The US has allowed abortion up to the moment of birth for 50 years. Only 3 nations allow abortion up to the moment of birth.
If this is the hill this morally bankrupt society wants to stand on at all costs, it doesn’t deserve to survive.
Because it is true - that’s why.
The 65-35 is the fake number they put up now.

Another factor is that a lot of conservative and deeply religious countries do allow for first trimester abortions and later D&Cs without being as ideological over it as the USA.
Abortion in America has been artificially turned into a political absolutism that splits the religious people and the agnostics and the atheists.
My first child died in the womb 14 weeks into the pregnancy. DNC was the only option to save my wife’s life. I’m 100% against elective abortion of a living, viable fetus but I would’ve beaten the crap out of any moron who tried to conflate that with an act that killed no baby and was essential to the preservation of the mother’s life.
A sister of mine had an ectopic pregnancy and needed emergency surgery to live; despite her really having no option other than to choose life by having the operation she got harassed by morons who couldn’t tell the difference between a totally nonviable fertilised embryo and a healthy third trimester infant being killed by an evil choice.
Principles have to be immutable otherwise they are not principles.
The ultimate principles should be:
Hippocratic oath: First, do no harm. If the embryo or fetus is already dead or has no chance of survival AND doing nothing needlessly threatens the life of thf mother, the right to life of the unborn has already been ordained by God and God asks us to choose the mother. It is a test of conviction - a Pharisee strives officiously to save the unborn no matter how dangerous that is to the mother, a Christian accepts the will of God and chooses practicality with compassion over self serving officiousness.
The second principle is that a totally viable unborn child should never be killed no matter what the circumstances of its conception are. This principle is again only enforceable with compassion - a 14 year old girl who’s been raped by a close family member or community elder cannot be expected to marry her uncle and have her mind destroyed as a result; that’s no environmental to bring up a child in. The state, the law, the health and mental well-being of both mother and child, must trump any toxic religious convictions and perversions of the people around them.
And i say that as I am myself the by-product of a teenager being raped by a “pillar of the community” and now being in the fifth decade of dealing with the fallout from it. A sister born after me was raped and ended up in a mental institution, a brother died from neglect, my birth mom went insane from the abuse, and another sister died from drink and drugs after herself being abused.
I was lucky - the pre woke conservative Christian state decided my welfare was more important than the abusers’right to rape girls with impunity. My mom less so, her rights were below his so i got taken to safety and she was pushed back into his rape pool.
In my wife’s circle of friends, even normally Republican women were upset at the prospect of “losing control of their own bodies”.
How evil can people get!?

Good gravy. Such inaccurate information. Scotus did not rule away womens rights to anything. Just pushed it to the states. And ther was no right to abortion in the Constitution.
Preserving White Supremacy? No thought about the life of the child.
No one can ever wonder why Germans sat back and “let” millions be exterminated in the 19040s. We are currently sitting back and “letting” millions of children be murdered.
Remember, it was “legal” to murder those people in th 1940s in Germany.

I’m sorry to say.
I no longer give people the excuse that they voted the way they did because they did not understand what they were voting for.
Instead, I have concluded these people are incapable of ever understanding the topics. I have spoken to way to many women who just give me a blank stare when I even start trying to explain a topic to them.
It's not a question of whether society deserves to survive. It's a question of what is possible to be accomplished.
We have now seen that abolishing abortion through the legislative process is not possible at this time. It is a battle that can only be won one heart at a time.
