U.S. Senate race between Ron Johnson, Mandela Barnes too close to call; Johnson says race is ‘over’

MADISON, Wis. — The race for one of Wisconsin’s seats in the U.S. Senate is too close to call early Wednesday, with the campaigns for both Sen. Ron Johnson and Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes telling their supporters to go home for the night while the final votes are tabulated.

Speaking to his supporters, Sen. Johnson said he was not going to declare victory in the early hours of Wednesday morning, but said “we feel very confident that there’s no way that they can make up that gap.”

As of 1 a.m. Wednesday, 98% of Wisconsin’s votes had been counted, with preliminary numbers showing Sen. Johnson holding slim lead of about 38,621 votes — or about 1.4% — with most of the votes from areas that are typically Democratic strongholds already counted.

“We’ll wait until all the numbers come in before I declare final victory,” Sen. Johnson said. “Let’s wait for all the numbers to come in, then we’ll declare victory tomorrow morning.”

Barnes’ supporters preached patience as the final votes are counted.

“We will not silence any voice. We don’t believe in voter suppression in Wisconsin,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Vice President Felesia Martin said at Barnes’ campaign event. “Let the process play out. Thank you again and keep that positive energy going, sending Mandela positive thoughts.”

Johnson was first elected to the Senate in 2010, beating incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold. He then beat Feingold for a second time in 2016. Johnson had previous indicated he would only serve two terms, but walked that back in January, citing what he called the “Democrats’ complete takeover of government.”

Barnes represented Wisconsin’s 11th District in the State Assembly from 2013 to 2017. He won the 2018 Democratic primary for Lieutenant Governor before he and Tony Evers narrowly beat incumbents Gov. Scott Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch three months later. Barnes was Wisconsin’s first-ever Black Lieutenant Governor and the youngest Lieutenant Governor in the country.

Johnson’s campaign took aim at Barnes’ policies, such as his support for the Green New Deal and rights for transgender people. Barnes, meanwhile, criticized Johnson for his stance on abortion and said the Senator downplayed the violence that occurred during the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

The two debated multiple times during the campaign, with the final debate coming in October.

THAT'S A WRAP, PEOPLE! Told you Wisconsin would keep Johnson in the Senate. Ya-Hoo! Sorry about losing our Governorship to that nimrod Evers, BUT the good news is that he's still pretty impotent with a solidly Republican Wisconsin House and Assembly (Senate)! On to 2024!

That race os going to recount. There’s absentee ballots in Milwaukee that have yet to come in as well.

The Democrats started challenging the integrity of military ballots last week alleging an official was messing with them so they will fight but Johnson probably has enough thousands to deal with the Democrats last ditch maniuplations.

Why were the Commie RATS, Fetterman and Warnock awarded the Senate seats when they were only ONE Percentage point apart from their opponents. This election is starting to smell like a banana boat loaded with old rotten bananas.

We celebrate with you!!!

I woke up this morning thinking about children and many narrow victories. DO PARENTS who voted really want what is happening in America in their homes???? Do they want government control over their control of their child? Government probably pays for more of their births and raising....???!!!

Then I prayed and I heard from God...God is not finished with America. He is letting things happen as there is more evil to recognize. Lord, have mercy on us and America.

Okay, but it shouldn’t have been this close. Let’s face reality. (1) The Dems’ vote-harvesting tactics are very effective. And (2) The woke/BLM/abortionist/LGBTQ mindset that so many of us deplore has currency, unfortunately, with half the population.

This is a disturbingly narrow victory by a good senator against a flat-out marxist opponent.

2024?

Here are the numbers from last night:

R+13 65+
R+11 45-65

D+2 30-44
D+28 18-29

The Communists have succeeded in indoctrinating an entire generation of good Communists, who are clearly quite happy with where this country is heading. My Dad told me before he died that he felt sorry for me, because I’d have to stick around and see what happens. The writing is on the wall. I’m just glad I didn’t have any kids to live through the coming Hellscape. The best we old farts can do for these fine young socialists is die before they have to euthanize us, they don’t want to hear us bitching about our lost freedom, prosperity, and mourning the America that was. I’d say pack up your bags and flee, but that’s what the US has always been, the place you flee to for freedom. That’s over and done with.

Still watch Milwaukee County. They will find enough absentee ballots to put Barnes over the top.

I can still remember as a young child my parents both in tears when Goldwater lost to Johnson.

I was too young to understand it at the time but it’s all too clear now.

I agree. WAY too close for comfort. It certainly shows you what we in Wisconsin, and other states, are now up against for 2024.

I can’t believe there are so many evil, child-killing, freaks in America! That, alone, is terrifying!

I think that may be in error as the total % of precincts reporting is ~ 95% everywhere else.

I share your pessimism to some extent, and you’re right about the coming generation. I, however, am going to live the rest of my life knowing that I was one of the last ones, by God’s Grace, to have lived The Good Life in rural America. :)

“I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.”

I now fully identify with Pontius Pilate as he washed his hands. Congrats kids, you voted, and you got your way. Have fun burning it all down. I wash my hands.
