Former President Donald Trump has told several allies he could announce a 2024 presidential run Monday night at a rally for Ohio Republican Senate candidate JD Vance, The Post has learned.
A well-connected Republican source said the 45th president was “telling people he might tonight, but it’s not a done thing.”
Trump told several prominent conservatives over the past two weeks that he would formally throw his hat in the ring during his 8 p.m. appearance with Vance in Dayton, Ohio.
But it’s unclear if the notoriously mercurial 76-year-old intends to actually do so on the eve of an election in which Republicans are favored to win the House and possibly the Senate.
“It’s not inconceivable that this is just Trump doing Trump things,” the source said, adding: “This all could be a ploy by Trump to get people to pay attention to the rally.”
“This is so classic … We’re not going to know until he gets on stage.”

An example of TDS would be trashing Donald Trump based on unnamed sources, given the long poor track record of unnamed sources and Trump.
Try reading more than the headline.
After watching 2016 it seems to me that this is standard Trump shout of “squirrel” to the media dogs insuring their coverage
Another one.
I’ve been giving this some thought. I think it would be GOOD if he announced tonight. I hear the ‘we’re going to win, why rock the boat’ argument, and it has some merit. On the other hand, Trump is the leader of the party. He is the most popular Republican. I think for every angry Dem he drives out from under their rocks tomorrow, we pick up another MAGA voter, and then some.
He is the only GOP candidate who can win in 2024. Why? Because Trump will run at some point, and in the unlikely event he fails in the primary, he’ll split the party. Can you envision Trump congratulating Glenn Youngkin or Ron DeSantis on a race well-run and endorsing them for the Presidency? Yeah, me neither. He’ll take his ball and go home, and his MAGA base will go with him. It’s Trump or bust.
Unite us, Donald. Announce.
Actually Pop, I was referring to this post, not the other post. Nothing wrong with that one.
Yes a poor idea. Trump always seems to find a way to shoot self in foot.
I do.
It’s a great idea!! Do it. You TDS toads need to STHU.
So, for clarification, there’s only two camps, fluffers and TDS?
Re: 50 - Good post.
And notice most of the name calling and the conspiracy theories about why FReepers must have TDS if they don’t think President Trump declaring for the Presidency tonight is a good idea, are from those FReepers who simply can’t fathom why other FReepers don’t think like them.
If Trump does this and we don’t take house and Senate, Trump will be politically done.
“Tonight is hugely monumental. I really don’t think he would announce (for president) tonight. I don’t think he wants to take the attention off these candidates.” - RSBN 11/7/22
Either way, by hinting at it, he ensures every network covers the rally.
Trump wins again.
I can’t wait to hear who his running mate will be.
I do.. what is the damned rush?? He can’t wait a couple days??
Trump declaring tonight wouldn't be a good idea. Criticizing such an idea wouldn't be TDS.
Assuming Trump is going to do such a thing based on an unnamed source, that's entirely different.
Thank you for your comments, which I hope to respectfully address. I agree that the referenced quote was snide in nature, and completely and honestly understand your frustrations with these media types constantly stirring our pot with unnamed sources, effectively pushing us into one another to start a fight like older kids do to younger ones on the playground.
I’m just trying to ratchet down the name calling, which isn’t a healthy form of debate, or discussion, and typically only leads to escalation and even harder positions in the future.
This goes for both sides, we should try to avoid calling each other deranged, or cultists, as that is typically not accurate, nor the proper way to address other adults.
Maybe I’m being too idealistic, but I unfortunately see the likelihood of these discussions on whose candidate is better increasing in future, and as I may be caught in the middle of a few, I’d like to keep them as respectful as possible.
Hope that seems reasonable, thanks.
I really hope Trump has enough sense not to bash DeSantis. I’m a huge Trump fan, but this would not be good.
Agreed - but you risk being called a RINO, or suffering from TDSD is you post that. Which you did post.
Thanks for pushing back against the echo chamber folks.
Yup.
1. Leave the limelight to others in the arena Tuesday
2. Wait a couple days so you can say you need to run to right the election-fixing wrongs.
