November brings Nicole and mid-term elections. Nicole has developed with subtropical characteristics in the Atlantic Ocean, taking aim for storm weary Florida.
A subtropical system has some central convection fairly near the center surrounding a warming core existing in the mid-levels of the troposphere. Nicole may further develop into a tropical storm.

Well, came through in Homosassa with flying colors. Wind was worse than Ian and a transformer even blew not far from us but we never lost power or had damage.
Great to know you came through the storm with electricity and no damage! I declare hurricane season has ended. Harrumph!
Any flooding there, or were y’all getting onshore winds like Ian?
On Thursday, hours after the severe storm had passed, the beachside city ordered the evacuation of three more condo buildings.
"We did have to order three more," said Daytona Beach Shores Mayor Nancy Miller shortly after noon on Thursday. "We have sheriff's deputies assisting us now in evacuating them."
The additional evacuations were ordered after inspections found significant damage that could lead to loss of life, she said.
Volusia County officials held a press conference at the county's Emergency Operations Center on Thursday to provide an update on the damage caused locally by Tropical Storm Nicole.
"As of last, we've got 19 hotels or condo buildings and 40 single-family homes that are (structurally) compromised," said county spokesman Kevin Captain. "There are some buildings that have been partially collapsed and some that need to have an engineering inspection."
Well, thank you for all you do. See you next year!!!!
It’s incredible. Police Chief said the city building inspector checked these this MORNING and they were ok. Came back this afternoon and said too much damage since the A.M. and to evacuate. Since this morning.
DB Shores is in for a world of hurt.
So many displaced people. Heartbreaking. How many of those Daytona Beach condos and homes were destination locations for family Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners this year?
There was a little bit of flooding but not much.
My sister lives in St. Pete and some of her family lives in Tampa. Tonight when I asked how she was, she said fine. That she had some wind and rain, but never lost power. Then she said that the “news people said we had winds as much as 200 mph.”
That sounds pretty high to me, and that if true, would be very devastating.
Can anyone tell me if this is true? Did the winds really get that high? I haven’t watched this storm, so I don’t know how bad it was. Was it more than a Cat 2?
There were no winds 200 MPH during Hurricane Nicole, which never exceeded Category 1.
Ok, thanks.
I’m hoping it was a typo and that she never corrected herself. If her tv people actually said 200 mph then to me that would just be scare tactics by the media. I hope it was a case of fat fingers.
