Former president Donald Trump boasted on Saturday that he’s polling way above “Ron DeSanctimonious” for the GOP 2024 presidential nomination, in an early taste of the rivalry that’s widely expected to develop after next week’s midterms.
Trump at 71, Ron DeSanctimonious at 10 percent, Mike Pence at 7 percent . . . Oh, Mike’s doing better than I thought,” Trump told a crowd of supporters at a rally in Latrobe, Pa., for Republican Senate and gubernatorial candidates Dr. Mehmet Oz and Doug Mastriano.
The fact that Trump assigned the governor of Florida a derogatory nickname is a telltale sign that he considers him a legitimate competitor for 2024, and that he is indeed gearing up to run. Governor Ron DeSantis has long been regarded a GOP rising star and strong contender for president, one who could potentially have the conservative-populist credibility to take on Trump in a primary.
While presiding over the Sunshine State, DeSantis has demonstrated a willingness to apply government power to achieve conservative policy goals — incorporating some of Trump’s confrontational approach. For example, he enacted a mask-mandate ban for K-12 public schools and a prohibition on teaching gender identity and sexual orientation to elementary-aged children. Both laws received widespread support among residents. The hope of some Republicans who favor DeSantis over Trump is that he can pursue a similar agenda without the political baggage of the former president.

I watched the Trump rally in PA and do not recall any mention of the “vaccines.”
This thread reminds me of the Cruz vs Trump threads from six years ago, before everyone realized that nobody comes close to Trump.
The Cruzers like to lose. It’s what they do.
I really like Cruz. He’s just not as badass as The Donald. Same with DeSantis. They’re both great, but Donald is the GOAT.
I just watched several recent news reports out of Florida on youtube, all of which reported it is a Trump rally, and Trump specifically requested that DeSantis NOT be invited.
One reporter did say that it had not been decided by the Trump team how it would be handled if Ron DeSantis decided to call Trump’s bluff and come uninvited to crash Trump’s rally, because it was not expected for him to do that.
So clearly Trump is the reason DeSantis won’t be there tonight, not the other way around. I know that’s hard for some of you to digest but most everyone else knows it to be true, and it fits Trump’s narcissistic personality perfectly.
“ Trump specifically requested that DeSantis NOT be invited.”
I believe everything the media says. Especially where it comes to Trump. They’ve been consistently fair and truthful
Especially in a case like this where they have no way of knowing
Here’s another media gem:

2024 has kicked off.
You said something ridiculous so I said an equally ridiculous thing back. Desantis should be nicer to Trump. Hit a nerve there.
Your point?
DeSantis hasn’t announced yet and would be a fool to do so until after this election. Nothing proven or implied either way. Of course these rules are for all candidates; your sarcasm is not enlivening or entertaining.
Recently she said the left would be increasing their majority. The attack on her husband and the compromising circumstances probably have her keepinng out of sight.
Those reports that Trump didn’t invite DeSantis came straight from Trump’s own staff’s list of who was invited.
Yet you believe reports that DeSantis is now partnered with Paul Ryan. Based on what, exactly?
I hope this approaches the info you are looking for:
Trump is financed by small contributions. DeSantis by billionaires. I posted links earlier in the thread.

Citadel Investment Boss Ken Griffin Previously Gave DeSantis $10 Million, Today Says He Would Accept Position as Treasury Secretary September 21, 2022
According to a recording of his talk, Ryan named Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott as his three favorites. {source} DeSantis fighting Disney was “really good for him, from a political perspective,” Ryan said.
DeSantis didn’t raise $200+ million, with 94% coming from billionaires and multinational corporations, for a gubernatorial reelection race in Florida. Keep in mind all of the major expenses (television ads, mailers, etc.) are coming from outside PACs and affiliated groups.
DeSantis has raised a massive war chest and he is not spending it. He has willingly accepted the positioning for a 2024 nomination effort. It is intellectually dishonest not to see what the Club is doing.
The DNC Club is doing the same thing with California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The both wings of the UniParty want a Newsom -vs- DeSantis contest.
I would not want to be whomever gets to play Jeb.
Seriously, that’s all you have to support your claim that DeSantis is a Paul Ryan puppet, that Ryan likes his chances. likely because the big donors who supported Trump last time are now supporting DeSantis now, instead?
That’s it?
Your #334: Well said. I agree completely.
Time will tell.
I don’t disagree with much that you write. But if Trump values loyalty…will he be able to find people to run the government who can be loyal?
He went through a lot of folks during his four years. And you know we haven’t heard the real inside dope on what caused a lot of folks to run away from him.
Look, I am not going to vote for him again because he is old.
But those who are looking at him again need to ask some tough questions about him. And I am not talking about the stuff the Dems are squawking about, I am talking about how he would get his policies enabled with a hostile Congress.
These questions get me beat up by the cultists. But we need more than personality.
And I am tired of the Octogenarians on both sides. How come people don’t retire anymore.
So what is the issue?
Politics is a contact sport. I don’t want any wink and nod coalitions until the primaries are over. Trump put Cruz down hard because he had to. They seem to be on the same side now. That’s the way it has to be.
I thought the same thing when I saw Grassley running again.....at 89. I don’t dislike the guy, but come on. Enough is enough.
I took the nickname after the “Guido” ice pops from the 1980s. I was addicted to those
None by me. Freegards.
