Trump Boasts He’s Polling above ‘Ron DeSanctimonious’ for 2024, at Rally for Oz and Mastriano
The National Review ^ | 11/05/2022 | Caroline Downey

Posted on 11/05/2022 9:36:58 PM PDT by thegagline

Former president Donald Trump boasted on Saturday that he’s polling way above “Ron DeSanctimonious” for the GOP 2024 presidential nomination, in an early taste of the rivalry that’s widely expected to develop after next week’s midterms.

Trump at 71, Ron DeSanctimonious at 10 percent, Mike Pence at 7 percent . . . Oh, Mike’s doing better than I thought,” Trump told a crowd of supporters at a rally in Latrobe, Pa., for Republican Senate and gubernatorial candidates Dr. Mehmet Oz and Doug Mastriano.

The fact that Trump assigned the governor of Florida a derogatory nickname is a telltale sign that he considers him a legitimate competitor for 2024, and that he is indeed gearing up to run. Governor Ron DeSantis has long been regarded a GOP rising star and strong contender for president, one who could potentially have the conservative-populist credibility to take on Trump in a primary.

While presiding over the Sunshine State, DeSantis has demonstrated a willingness to apply government power to achieve conservative policy goals — incorporating some of Trump’s confrontational approach. For example, he enacted a mask-mandate ban for K-12 public schools and a prohibition on teaching gender identity and sexual orientation to elementary-aged children. Both laws received widespread support among residents. The hope of some Republicans who favor DeSantis over Trump is that he can pursue a similar agenda without the political baggage of the former president.

Why hasn’t trump announced. What? Where did that come from? What is this? An interrogation? I’m his campaign manager. Huh?

Heh. You don't want to even try answering that question because it undercuts your argument that there is something wrong with DeSantis not announcing.

You know very well there are perfectly legitimate reasons candidates don't announce this early, including Trump. Yet, you imply there is something slimy about DeSantis not announcing even though nobody else has, and even though he is actually running for Governor right now.

Applying a standard you know is unreasonable to someone is confirmation that you are arguing in bad faith.

Prove me wrong. Name a Republican who announced for the Presidency while he was an active candidate for office in the upcoming midterms.

There are constraints & requirements once he announces as he has stated on many occasions.

You don't say! And tell me...wouldn't those exact same restrains and requirements apply to DeSantis?

The dog that did not bark in the night.

What I find interesting is that a thread about a very brief comment at a political rally can bring about so much fervor. I guess to some extent that is the lightning rod power of Trump. But for the past week there has been something far more interesting happening that hasn’t resulted in much interest - a almost no emotional fervor - whatsoever.

Where’s Nancy?

She hasn’t said anything in a week…about anything. It’s HER majority that is being threatened in 48 hours…and…nothing. Total radio silence. No barbs even at the Uber Maga’s who supposedly put her husband in the hospital.

Trump’s one word barb at his Governor has launched a billion words. The dog that didn’t bark in the night has been completely ignored.

“…imply there is something slimy about DeSantis not Announcing…”

I’m not implying anything. I’m saying straight, if he’s a candidate he’s fair game for attention to his actions. If he’s not, he should make it clear to people he’s not running as the media has led people to assume

He is a candidate for Governor, not for President. Down the road, he may become a candidate for President, at which point he is fair game.

Attacking him while he is an active candidate for Governor is bogus. Unless you're a Democrat.

Great point. It may be that she is trying to distance herself from the coming tsunami, or it’s about her husband, or some combination of the two.

#6: Thank you for that. I was completely unaware.

Yes, Sundress has been whining about Ron for months, but he’s more sanctimonious than Rove. And often flat out wrong. But never, ever admits it. And his followers slobber all over him (Mark Bradman, he of Publix Grocer fame) like a ecstatic Great Dane.

So I stopped listening to CTH long ago.

But will pay attention to People’s Pundit now.

If Ryan, McCarthy, and Jeb push the same guy, watch out. But Ron has a knack for not alienating Rhinos, without doing what they want or falling for their puffery.

I gues it wasn’t that bad a shot by Trump. And otet Ron know that h8s recent “Ron is God” campaign ad is, well, sanctimonious as all get out. It frankly made me cringe and do a facepalm.

Hey Ron’s People: I know you lurk here. Fire whoever pushed you to do that ad. Seriously Cringe.

Wow, what a cutting retort.
BTW, I don’t wish. I voted for 45 the first time around and would gladly do so again given the alternatives. But at some point we all must realize what is done for the individual versus what is done for an idea or for a larger cause.

Some people just lack the self awareness and the perspective to see the greater good.

“ He is a candidate for Governor, not for President”

Then he can make that clear himself. And he can boost Trump. See if he shows up at the Miami rally tonight as just the governor candidate

What we need to save the country is for George Soros to endorse Trump for President. Then perhaps the only-Trump cult will abandon their hero for someone who can win in 2024.

“A solid dive by Law.Com and Daily Business Review into the background of who is financing Donald Trump versus who is financing Ron DeSantis should help to clarify the nature of the difference between them.”

Do you have a link for that? I did search that and didn’t find. Thanks.

Here’s the conclusion I’ve come to:

Two alpha males, neither one perfect. I see things I don’t care for in DeSantis, and I’ve read here and there some things that I tend to believe. I see things in Trump I don’t care for, and there are some things I may say differently.

That aside, it doesn’t matter to me. I look at what they do for the American people, I look at their policies, I look at the results of their actions, and I don’t care how imperfect they may be, or whether or not I personally like them. They can BOTH be great leaders.

President Trump may have one more term. Governor DeSantis has lots of time and another term as the excellent Governor of Florida will only give him more experience and set him up for a future run if he so chooses.

The only thing that would cause me to truly dislike DeSantis is if he really is colluding with the swamp rinos to help them take Trump out. That would be a nasty thing to do, considering he’s only Governor because of President Trump. Trump values loyalty, and that sure isn’t it. I also value what Laura Loomer says, and she actually said it first.

And he can boost Trump.

As others have tried to explain to you, Trump is not on any current ballot, or even declared for anything officially, so he should not need any immediate boost or support. On the other hand, DeSantis is already declared and on the ballot Tuesday, so he should be the one everyone is boosting, including Trump. To see it any other way exposes an obsession with trying to make everything focus on Trump at the expense of everything snd everyone else.

See if he shows up at the Miami rally tonight as just the governor candidate.

The reports I have seen indicate that it is a Trump rally, and Trump did not include DeSantis on the list of people he wanted invited, in an apparent snub to DeSantis, not the other way around. If you have information that indicates DeSantis was invited, let’s see it, but if not, DeSantis not being there is by Trump’s decison, and where any blame should go.

As the title suggests, Trump dissed DeSantis. DeSantis is fair game. Everyone’s knows Trump os front runner, DeSantis is de facto rive, having allowed the media to carry on with this claim.

That’s all. We’ll find out if DeSantis shoes tonight for the Miami rally whether he’s out for desantis (whose race for gov is de facto over) or whether trump has a point.

I believe DeSantis was invited and declined after he endorsed the RINO in Colorado.
