Trump Boasts He’s Polling above ‘Ron DeSanctimonious’ for 2024, at Rally for Oz and Mastriano
The National Review ^ | 11/05/2022 | Caroline Downey

Posted on 11/05/2022 9:36:58 PM PDT by thegagline

Former president Donald Trump boasted on Saturday that he’s polling way above “Ron DeSanctimonious” for the GOP 2024 presidential nomination, in an early taste of the rivalry that’s widely expected to develop after next week’s midterms.

Trump at 71, Ron DeSanctimonious at 10 percent, Mike Pence at 7 percent . . . Oh, Mike’s doing better than I thought,” Trump told a crowd of supporters at a rally in Latrobe, Pa., for Republican Senate and gubernatorial candidates Dr. Mehmet Oz and Doug Mastriano.

The fact that Trump assigned the governor of Florida a derogatory nickname is a telltale sign that he considers him a legitimate competitor for 2024, and that he is indeed gearing up to run. Governor Ron DeSantis has long been regarded a GOP rising star and strong contender for president, one who could potentially have the conservative-populist credibility to take on Trump in a primary.

While presiding over the Sunshine State, DeSantis has demonstrated a willingness to apply government power to achieve conservative policy goals — incorporating some of Trump’s confrontational approach. For example, he enacted a mask-mandate ban for K-12 public schools and a prohibition on teaching gender identity and sexual orientation to elementary-aged children. Both laws received widespread support among residents. The hope of some Republicans who favor DeSantis over Trump is that he can pursue a similar agenda without the political baggage of the former president.

Pompeo is also running and makes no bones about it. As Sec of State Trump thought he was great and he was a damn good Sec of State. Will Trump soon start badmouthing this West Point graduate who was his own Sec of State, one that he constantly praised.

Probably. But Pompeo is deep state, I believe.

Certainly Pompeo will badmouth Trump.
I thought Pompeo was an effective SOS but I do not know whether he also was obstructing and working against his President sub rosa. Pompeo can certainly throw his hat in the 2024 ring but he will need to survive the heat of scrutiny. I doubt if his candidacy will catch fire any more than Pence’s.

It’s not about nice.
Nice is butter, it oils the gears that run society. It also gums up the works and prevents truths from surfacing, problems from being identified & dealt with. Nice is a way of disarming people so you can manipulate them as all machiavellian personalities instinctively realize.

IOW nice is not a goal or a good. It is a grace note, sometimes a tool, that neither truth nor the common good should be sacrificed for.
Treat all as you would be treated with honor, forbearance, compassion but above all with honesty.

Both Trump and DeSantis are using tactics from The Art of War and based on the the 300 plus comments on this post, it is extremely effective. If you think this post is hot just imagine how confused our enemy is.

Alright. Maybe you’re not going quite as far as most of the Trump supporters on this thread who are demanding that DeSantis cede his movement over to Trump, especially considering many in that movement see DeSantis as much more conservative than Trump when it comes to actual positions and policies.

But you still owe us an answer on why you said you believe quote “DeSantis should be nicer to Trump” when Trump has been the one antagonizing him this year, such as Trump referring to DeSantis as being “gutless” for not shooting himself up with boosters.

Thanks.

“Trump is a business man; businessmen solve problem...”

Yes, yes. Trump did everything right but the mean old swamp somehow just became evil and dishonest while he was trying to save us all from something we were all told, by his administration, to be insanely scared about.

You’ve made the best case I’ve heard why not to trust Trump to drain his swamp.

Trump needs a cabinet of people and at this point he wont let anyone work with him. can’t be all about you my president, can’t be all about you.

That's the core problem. A president needs strong, tough people to appoint to cabinet positions if he really wants to get a lot done. The problem is that most tough, strong people aren't going to want to put themselves in a position where Trump may decide to humiliate them publicly because he thinks it's funny, and they just have to stand there and take it. Or to be called upon to defend whatever ridiculous statement he happens to make in a given moment.

He apparently has learned nothing from his first term. And if he couldn't put together a good cabinet before he alienated everyone, imagine what it's going to be like the second time around.

“So you think DeSantis should announce that he plans to run for President while he is actually running for Governor”

No I think he should do what he’s doing. Allow the media to position him as running. This way no one is allowed to say anything against him. Trump can’t treat him as competition. Then when Trump rightly treats him as the rival that he is, everyone can defend him against mean old Trump

He should continue running without really running

People love him for it

I find in wimpy assed passive aggression but we suburban women love it. It’s what we’re used to.

Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican, but don’t be a chump. Recognize where the fellow Republican is actually a democrat”

Yes, he needs to understand that the nomination is his IF he wants it. DeSantis has already said he won’t run for 2024 and I believe him. He has so, so many years to get to that White House if he wants it.

What NR is trying to do (along with every other Democrat Party sympathetic rag) is sow division, mainly to try and affect the mid-terms and to also foment convention elector problems to keep Trump out of a first-round nomination and straight into a brokered convention where the likes of Turtle and crew can put up another Bush or other NWO simpleton (e.g., like Romney and/or McCain).

Trump just needs to stay cool and enjoy the aftermath of the Democrat repudiation come Tuesday and forget about DeSantis.

At the Trump Arizona rally, Lake stated that the ‘consultant class’ approached her and they were against Trump. She trashed them and stated that she was standing with Trump. It sounds like DeSantis sold his soul these anti-Maga Rinos. A Trump/Lake ticket would be sweet!

I agree, so that comment would be much better suited for Trump to read, than me.

If it appears I am losing my patience with some posters, it’s because their comments are primarily based on raw emotion, and their literal love of Trump. Not saying you, specifically, but but blind devotion to a flawed, elderly man is a danger we face.

Hey, are we talking about Trump here too? Because that is exactly what Trump himself is doing. "Treat me as if I'm running even though I haven't said that I am." It's hypocritical as hell, and he doesn't even have the excuse if being in the middle of a race for a completely different office.

What is Trump's excuse for not making that announcement??

Trump is out there as fair game. Taking slings and arrows like anyone else this thread included. He is front runner. He’s not in any way exactly like DeSantis in this situation and you know it

He is out there campaigning for others and winking that he’s going to announce as soon as2024 opens up. Which is right after the midterms. Until then it’s all midterms

He is also honest about his position. He says he’s out there as someone from whom the election was stolen. People are there keeping hope alive. They voted for him and got cheated. That’s his position and he’s honest about it

DeSantis position is media darling candidate. He can dissuade tham but he hasn’t. He’s fair game.

But see if he makes the Miami rally today. He ought to if he wants to help fellow floridians. If he wants to help trump

Why hasn’t trump announced. What? Where did that come from? What is this? An interrogation? I’m his campaign manager. Huh?

Everyone knows trump is running. Anyone with any sense would announce during pres race season which is after they finish looking for dem votes next week - around the 14th. Hes already said he would do that

There are constraints & requirements once he announces as he has stated on many occasions. Maybe you weren’t aware but bashing w/o researching is counterproductive.
