Former president Donald Trump boasted on Saturday that he’s polling way above “Ron DeSanctimonious” for the GOP 2024 presidential nomination, in an early taste of the rivalry that’s widely expected to develop after next week’s midterms.
Trump at 71, Ron DeSanctimonious at 10 percent, Mike Pence at 7 percent . . . Oh, Mike’s doing better than I thought,” Trump told a crowd of supporters at a rally in Latrobe, Pa., for Republican Senate and gubernatorial candidates Dr. Mehmet Oz and Doug Mastriano.
The fact that Trump assigned the governor of Florida a derogatory nickname is a telltale sign that he considers him a legitimate competitor for 2024, and that he is indeed gearing up to run. Governor Ron DeSantis has long been regarded a GOP rising star and strong contender for president, one who could potentially have the conservative-populist credibility to take on Trump in a primary.
While presiding over the Sunshine State, DeSantis has demonstrated a willingness to apply government power to achieve conservative policy goals — incorporating some of Trump’s confrontational approach. For example, he enacted a mask-mandate ban for K-12 public schools and a prohibition on teaching gender identity and sexual orientation to elementary-aged children. Both laws received widespread support among residents. The hope of some Republicans who favor DeSantis over Trump is that he can pursue a similar agenda without the political baggage of the former president.

Indeed. Aside from appearing juvenile, those type of call-outs are unnecessary and stupid. Trump should be hammering on issues, not personalities. The action may also be described as moronic, as well as juvenile, and not the stuff of presidential timbre.
What a jerk off.
Just like in ‘16, the Cruzer Losers think they have found a new horse.
DeSantis already said he wouldn’t run if Trump was... End of discussion.
This whole “DeSantis owes Trump” business sounds a lot like the traditional establishment “wait your turn” nonsense.
“At the same time Ron DeSantis is the best governor I’ve seen in my life and should be the natural ideological successor to Trump.” Right on! DeSantis is a “doer,” not a mere “talker” like some here claim.
DeSantis has put the smackdown on Biden, child groomers, climate scammers, covidians, Disney, gun grabbers, race baiters, teacher’s unions, and anybody else who’s trying to make Florida a communist state. And guess what? Floridians love him for it! Including growing numbers of immigrants and people of color.
So what?
If DeS!thead a brain he would make it abundantly clear he is not runing in ‘24 and embrace Trump at every possible event and chance he gets. HE IS NOT; WHICH SPEAKS VOLUMES.
Exactly, these cult of Trumphumper worshippers are a disgrace.
ME! ME! ME! STFU what a blubbering buffoon
You LOST, GET OVER IT.
Trump is a 4 year old child that always has to be center of attention.
He’s doing the Dems work by attacking OUR candidate in an ACTUAL election run!
Dump Don the Con, he just wants your money, for himself
“Not good. Cheap shot, totally uncalled for.
First time I’ve ever been disgusted by Trump.
My enthusiasm for him just went from Eleventy to about a 7. Serious messed up thing to do.
Just. Dumb.”

You’re right.
Two words: Mike Pence.
There were red flags with regard to Pence.
We blew them off.
Let’s learn from our mistakes, shall we?
“You LOST, GET OVER IT.”
If Trump lost, then Biden won — like Lance Armstrong won.
Trump didn’t lose the election.
Desantis is Fake MAGA. I want the real thing.
“Dumb move. Trump should not be bashing the most popular governor in decades.”

Exactly
Just a small window into the underpinnings of De Santis and why I distrust his motivations:
Reported in October:
A week ago, Colorado senate republican candidate Joe O’Dea said on CNN, “I don’t think Donald Trump should run again.” He quickly added, ” I’m going to actively campaign against Donald Trump and make sure that we have got four or five really great Republicans right now; Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley and Tim Scott.”
Today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis picked Joe O’Dea as his only 2022 endorsed senate candidate {link}, recording a robocall for O’Dea that says, “Hello this is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. America needs strong leadership and desperately. That’s why I’m endorsing Joe O’Dea for U.S. Senate. Colorado, please vote for Joe O’Dea.”
Keep in mind, Ron DeSantis is a governor who campaigns on his success as a governor and has been rallying exclusively for governor candidates. However, despite not endorsing the republican candidate in the Colorado state race (Heidi Ganahl), Governor DeSantis went out of his way to support the only explicitly anti-Trump Senate candidate in 2022, Joe O’Dea.
A solid dive by Law.Com and Daily Business Review into the background of who is financing Donald Trump versus who is financing Ron DeSantis should help to clarify the nature of the difference between them.
President Trump is funded primarily from massive amounts of small contributions from small donors, the MAGA base.
Governor Ron DeSantis is funded primarily by a small group of exclusive Wall Street corporations, billionaires and hedge fund managers, and almost no small donors.
Essentially, if you are thinking about MAGA populism -vs- corporate republicanism; well, there’s the issue in easiest to understand data form.
Additionally, the new managers of DeSantis have recently noticed the vulnerability and hired firms to try and stimulate small donor amounts in an effort to avoid the jaw dropping difference in average donation. A strategy deployed by Jeb Bush in 2015. Pay attention to the names giving large donations to DeSantis and you will see: (a) where the economic policy distinction comes from; and (b) where the RDS branding and consulting image is coming from.
Business Daily Review – Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has raised more money than Donald Trump since the former president left office, relying on deep-pocketed donors rather than the small-dollar contributors he’ll need if he seeks the White House in 2024.
DeSantis … has amassed $142 million from the start of 2021 through Aug. 5 this year from donors such as the hedge fund billionaires Ken Griffin and Paul Tudor Jones. That tops the $136 million Trump collected over a slightly shorter period.
Unlike Trump, who relies largely on a network of small-dollar donors to fund his postpresidential political operations, DeSantis has raised the bulk of his money from a small number of wealthy donors writing him giant checks. That gives him plenty of money for his reelection effort in Florida, where laws allow unlimited contributions.
Once you see the strings on the marionettes you can never unsee them. The GOPe club uses the same play book. If you pulled a focus group of never-trumpers, then watched them discuss their snarky view of the MAGA voters they hate, then packaged that conversation into a targeted ad, this ‘cringeworthy’ outcome is exactly what you get.
The GOPe club are targeting MAGA voters by providing a manufactured and managed alternative to Donald Trump. That’s why you feel a little cringy when you watch the ad. The inauthentic nature transmits within the implied message.
The people behind Texas congressman Dan Crenshaw, likely the same branding group, did the same thing portraying Crenshaw as an action hero.
Yes it speakes to the fact that he is running for governor and is running to address the needs of his state. Not Trump.
