Florida has made a right turn since 2020. These four factors explain the change

In the final week before Election Day, the two most recent US presidents will hold rallies in Florida, where a seismic political shift currently underway may alter the national political map in the years to come.

President Joe Biden lands Tuesday in South Florida to campaign for Democrats. Donald Trump will host his own event for Republican Sen. Marco Rubio on Sunday in Miami.

The circumstances of their arrivals have brought their own intrigue. With Democrats reticent to welcome Biden and his underwater approval rating elsewhere, the president will spend one of the final days before the election in a state that has been an afterthought for his party for much of the midterm cycle. Meanwhile, Republicans speculate Trump is holding court in the Sunshine State two days before the election in part to needle Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a potential 2024 rival who was not invited to the weekend campaign stop.

Most election years, a visit by a high-profile politician to the Sunshine State would be the norm, if not expected. Trump and Biden each had multiple stops in Florida two years ago – including dueling rallies days before the election in 2020 separated by a few hours and just 10 miles of Tampa roads. And four years ago, races for governor and US Senate in Florida were decided in a recount.

But now, Republicans and Democrats are on opposite trajectories. Republicans believe they are headed for their most successful election night in a generation, buoyed by DeSantis’ record-breaking fundraising and a surge of enthusiasm. Democrats, trailing in the polls and lagging in excitement, are hoping for an unexpected change of political winds or they could be left without a single statewide elected official in Florida for the first time since at least Reconstruction.

Personally, I think the Dem’s mindless embrace of BLM has alienated many Hispanics and Asians. But the Hispanic trend toward the GOP is particularly problematic for the Dems as they are more numerous.

The Dems love lumping all minorities into the POC (People of Color) basket. However, they don’t seem to realize that different ethic groups have friction. It’s a pretty hard thing to miss, but somehow they have ignored it.

It seems like the coronavirus response has something to do with it; that showed people which states are authoritarian vs. libertarian.

Then you have segments of the Hispanic population who recognize the extreme leftward shift of the Democrat party in comparison to Republicans and Independents.

Hispanics, like other populations are an extremely mixed bag. Americans in general vary greatly in political outlook. Indians (Asian ones) are similar.

But Hispanics who don’t like communists REALLY don’t like communists. I have known quite a few. Democrats would have done better to just be the party of labor. But no...they had to go full Castro.

They correctly say (weird being CNN) that Hispanics are moving Republican, but they imply it’s just some random event.

Perhaps Hispanics don’t want Drag Queen parades in their schools, and stuff like that? Just maybe?

The recent hot-mike comments by the LA City Council members shows there is no big love-affair between Blacks and Hispanics.

The Democrats now represent liberal Whites who are elitist living in urban areas. So they are alienating the middle class. They don't have Bill Clinton types running the party anymore.

Florida is no longer a swing state. Color us deep red. It feels good.

That’s been going on in LA for a quarter century plus. The Hispanics ethnically cleansed a lot of blacks on out of town starting in the mid-90s.

Exactly, and what’s ironic is that the media helps the Democrats hide it at election time - so rather than losing elections and realizing that most middle class parents don’t want Drag Queen parades - they think there’s no pushback.

There never was any...especially after the Hispanics started taking over the "pharmaceutical" business.

“Voter registration has been a disaster,” said Thomas Kennedy, a Democratic National Committee member in Florida. “Our messaging sucks.”

LOL - yes, why yes, it does...

Usually it works. Until now. It's that blatant but the Democrats are not willing to look at themselves in the mirror.

The four reasons in the article:

Voter registration favors Republicans for the first time ever
Hispanics are shifting to the GOP
Republican advantage in fundraising
Redistricting favors Republicans
