U. of Florida faculty revolt over Sen. Ben Sasse pick as school prez, issue no-confidence vote

University of Florida faculty members have issued a no-confidence vote in the selection of Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) as the SEC school’s next president.

UF’s Faculty Senate held an emergency meeting Thursday night and railed against the administration’s decision to make Sasse the sole finalist for the role.

The group voted 72-16 in favor of the no-confidence declaration, and called for school brass to more fully explain why the lawmaker emerged as their top choice.

While not binding, the tally could complicate Sasse’s appointment, which was considered a formality at this stage.

The university’s Board of Trustees unanimously voted to name Sasse their only finalist earlier this month, and he was expected to win the appointment after formal interviews next month.

Too bad, so sad. The thing is, he would be great at UF.

Should have thought about that before going against Trump.

“It has nothing to do with Trump. He has a “R” at the end of his name, no matter how liberal he is.”

If I were there, I’d join the Left against him...but for the opposite reason.

Of course watch Sasse blame his rejection on Trump.

that’s why I wish I was student again at UF, I would counter protest these fools.

When I was a student at UF, Jimmy Carter was POTUS and the Iran hostage crises was going on, I got involved in a protest carrying signs that advocated dropping Nukes on Iran unless they released our citizens. It was great fun, it would be fun to counter protest these fools.

He’s probably as conservative as you can get into a job like that, similar to Mitch Daniels who’s done a good job at Purdue the last decade.

I know when I was at UF, these nuts are just a very vocal minority. But everyone else is just to apathetic to counter them, so they get their way.

This crap has gotten so out of hand. They need to expel these brats since they are more interested in pushing an agenda than pursuing an education.

I agree. The Board should tell them they are replaceable. They will act with tolerance and respect or they are free to leave. We need another let that sink in moment. Then, quietly organize conservative students to protest the protesting teachers who are wasting their tuition and time with their political causes. Don’t show support for Sasse. Put all energy against biased teachers and their intolerance towards others.

Was there a search committee involved in the hiring process.
Usually such a committee would include a number of senior faculty members. Also, such commmittees only recommend a candidate to the board of trustees or similar governing board.

That is what will more or less happen. As elsewhere, at my alma mater, the faculty senate is dominated by left wing kooks and troublemakers. In Red State Florida though, the Board of Trustees is dominated by men and women of talent and accomplishment in the business world. They will politely ignore the faculty senate and pick Sasse as the U of Florida’s next President based on his expected ability to raise gobs of private and public money.

Randy Boyd is President of the University of Tennessee system. He was at one time the GOP nominee for Governor of TN. Just to say it isn’t all universities that object to conservative politicians being President of the University.

If the faculty at the University of Florida is unionized, the faculty senate which consists of only a fraction of the faculty is really obsolete.

Universities are outrageously expensive socialist indoctrination centers.

UF-Gainesville is just another brick-in-the-wall.

The university will hire Charlie Crist; they have to wait until he loses on Nov. 8.
