I'll wager that is an autographed copy of Moochelle's book Becoming. Stood in line for hours at a book signing. Prolly used flex time to wait in line for that autograph. Isn't that special.

Welcome to the real world.
Biden would recommend that you "learn how to code."
Ask your parents how they handled the same kind of problem.

There’s a funny story in a book about Silicon Valley where the people getting canned start a tailgate party in the parking lot.

I went to a house party that was after a second round of layoffs at a company I'd been fired from a couple of months before. It was actually a pretty good time - everybody knew it was coming.

All subjective to who applied the label. A company can label their employees anything they like. The work doesn’t even have to be related to the label or industry standard. When I was in the garbage business our company used to label the average lowly garbage guy a “Hazardous waste handling specialist”. lol

Software engineers usually take a label of their own choosing.

Judging from your answer I would guess you are not in the IT World especially at the Enterprise Level, if you were you would know that the job title Data Engineer is common among companies from just about every industry and is not “fishy” at all.

No sympathy from most of America to those fired employees at Twitter. And it may happen soon at Meta, an even MORE hated tech company.

The term data engineer is common among companies from every industry and is not subjectively applied in most cases, it’s a very specific job.

For example:

You open a checking account with Bank of American - BofA.

Over the years you have the account perhaps you opened a brokerage account with BofA, financed a car, took out a home equity loan, financed a new house or business, etc..

Then later on, you move and send the bank or go online and change your address.

How does BofA determine all the accounts you have with them so when the account address changes all the accounts get updated at the same time.

How all that data is collected, stored and shared between applications is often times the Data Engineers job.

It’s a lot more complicated and less subjective than you might imagine.

But these are data engineers, not software engineers. One who sets up and maintains fake accounts could easily be considered Data/content engineers. Especially if Twitter is trying to hide what they actually do for the company.

I understand what data engineers are supposed to do. But if I was trying to hide what these folks really did for the company I would mislabel them to throw off suspicions. We are talking about Twitter here... Who claims to not have internal fake accounts.

I doubt these data engineers are up to nefarious acts, we know what they were up to, I would bet money the fake accounts, account suspensions and other things Twitter was up to were done at a much higher level than a normal data engineer.

Unfortunately, they for now they will have to suffer because of the actions of their bosses.

I don’t know... Seems they would need a bunch of paid bodies to keep all these fake accounts “personalized” and appear real.

I’m sure they were involved in the development of the things Twitter was up to, they might have even suggested some of them, but my experience tells me they were just foot soldiers doing what they were told. Given their politics I’m sure they wholeheartedly agreed with the direction of management.

Whoever was told to suspend Trump’s account was probably a high-level executive.

Musk’s next move should be to move the Twitter HQ to Texas. And not Austin. Midland-Odessa.

“Whoever was told to suspend Trump’s account was probably a high-level executive.”

Now that there is absolutely for sure. And all the other very high profile bans had to be executive decisions. Because you can bet they also contacted their legal team about damage control before they did it. :)
