House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, a Louisiana Republican, on Sunday was confronted over potential voter discontent with the GOP's plans for Medicare.
Representative Scalise appeared on Fox News Sunday to discuss the upcoming midterm elections. As the minority whip, he is considered to be the second-highest-ranking Republican in the House.
As soon as his interview began, host Shannon Bream pressed Scalise over the party's plans for Medicare and Social Security should they regain the House majority in this year's midterms. Bream presented the lawmaker with a message from a concerned Fox News viewer, who characterized the GOP's plan for Medicare as a potential "betrayal."
"He's a Republican, he's very worried about you cutting his Medicare," Bream said as she relayed the message she purported to have received on Twitter. "He says it's a dealbreaker and a betrayal by the GOP."
In June, the Republican Study Committee, of which Scalise is a member, released a budget plan that included numerous suggested reforms for Medicare and Social Security, including raising the eligibility ages for each program to 67 and 70, respectively. The proposal further called for withholding payments for individuals who retire early or had a certain level of income, and also suggested using private funding sources for Social Security to lower income taxes.

I am 60 and for the last 10 years I have wondered how they were going to f-—k me out of what I have contributed to and made plans involving for the last 4 decades.
Decent road map for it right there. Oh, and screwing you out what is rightfully yours (by THEIR own rules) will CERTAINLY be a BIPARTISAN issue.
Oh, puh- lease….
Wasn’t it Reagan who initiated the tax on social security?
Yet we keep paying higher premiums, our 2nd is TRICARE LIFE, hub spent 20 years in the Navy. And many pharmacies have dropped covering our ER scripts. Krogers, Walmart, and Private, while our Express Scripts copays keep increasing. Our Naval base is an old WW2 small base NAS-BUPERS. Everything comes out of Pensacola. Hours are limited, and when you need an ER script you need a pharmacy to take it. Obumer did this in his terms, cut payments, 6 months to get paid. Doctors and hospitals are in the works. I had a Diverticulitis attack, and the local pharmacy wouldn’t fill the script unless we paid the full cost, cheap one you can get away with it, but so many are too costly for seniors to absorb the full cost. We live rurally, Kroger’s is the only one within a reasonable drive. Friday forget the base until Monday, or Tuesday if it’s a holiday. For small bases, you have to order Express Scripts.
Current full retirement age (FRA) is 70. One can currently begin at age 62 (if earning less than about 20k) and get 70% of their Full benefit. If FRA is extended to 70 years old then using a similar scale the full benefit will grow in smaller increments but it won't be zero at 65.
My job was physical labor. No way I could do it at 70
Aren’t they talking about raising the beginning eligibility age to 70. So unlike now you couldn’t start Social Security until you turn 70. That would be a 100 percent cut for everyone under 70, because they couldn’t claim any level of benefits unlike now.
Even if they’re only raising full retirement age to 70, it’s still a cut in what people could receive if claiming early
So this would be a cut in Sociak Security. And only blindfolded partisans can deny that. A cut is a cut.
Meanwhile, no cuts in foreign aid. And GOP establishment members of Congress routinely vote for bigger military budgets than the Pentagon even asks for. With literally hundreds of bases around the world. Troops stationed in more countries than Rome under the imperial Caesars. It appears the tradeoff for empire is cuts in programs for Americans. And the GOP is fine with that - except for Trump, which is why they hate him
The GOP response to this should be that under Democrats everything has become very expensive, at the same time that people's savings/401Ks etc. are plummeting in value. But instead of fixing their mistakes, Democrats are doubling down on their mistakes, including giving money and broad benefits to illegals, sending billions to foreign governments, and helping Pharma make huge profits for making 'vaccines' that are marginally effective, and that are directed at a problem created as a consequence of government funding of dangerous research in China.
They should then emphasize that the number one priority of the GOP will be to put the economy back to the robust state it was in during the last Republican presidency, and restore the buying power, financial well-being, and security of the American people.
Scalia like all the other RINOs can never think of even one govt agency or welfare program that could be shuttered. But they are all about cutting SS and medicare.
Shannon Bream = blond democrat bimbo in the style of Chris Wallace dream girl.
Bream is a lightweight runway model trying to prove herself.
Female newzies are like female rockers - most suck.
As a former drunken sailor at least drunken sailors quit spending when their wallet is empty...
What are the details on the proposal’s part about withholding payments from those who retire early or make a certain income?
What was this House Study Committee proposing for people already on Social Security?
That they would have the benefits taken away and then reinstated at 70?
I’m almost 66; who’s going to hire me?
Social security is very fixable. Medicare and Medicaid are NOT very fixable. Here is a anexcellent analysis:

He has been saying for quite a while they system would blow up around 2024. Because of Medicare and Medicaid.
Kelly in AZ is spreading that lie about Blake Masters, too. It’s supposed to be all over the airwaves there, especially in the high retirement communities.
Other than Trump, do any Republicans ever mention cutting foreign aid? I guess Rand Paul has, but he’s far outside the party power circle
Why don’t they cut foreign aid instead - starting with Ukraine? And, or they can stop giving subsidies to EV manufacturers. One happens to be the richest man in the world as a result of subsidies by tax payers. Some taxpayers are subsidizing cars they can't afford, even if they wanted one.
Stupid GOP always goes after SS and Medicare. Never welfare and money for war.
Plain stupid and it will not be an issue to win any elections if they pursue it.
