Corning stock fell more than 4% on Tuesday after the company reported a weaker-than-expected outlook for the current quarter.
“We now expect smartphones to be down about 12% for the year, and we expect notebook and tablet demand to decline 15%,” said Wendell Weeks, Corning CEO.
It’s getting ridiculous that you need to replace a smart phone every 3-4 years when the technological improvements are minimal.
Yep. It’s a racket
Yup they make it all but impossible to replace the battery and force you to buy another.
Well, we used to call that ‘a saturated marketplace’.
If you at Apple still think you can sell more ice to more eskimos, then go for it!
Maybe prices will come down with reduced demand?
Just like EVs .... "You will own nothing and be happy" ...
Prediction:
Some smartphone maker is going to develop a cell phone that stays powered up for weeks, if not months at a time.
It will be similar to when light bulb manufacterers came up with LED bulbs aka ‘Lifetime’ bulbs that are supposed to last
10K hours. This has not fully destroyed the market for old fashioned filement bulbs, but it did take a large bite out of those sales.
Just had Apple replace an iPhone battery. Done in their store, in an hour.
Of course those more expensive bulbs need to be replaced just as much as conventional bulbs.
I’ve seen so many damaged phones, I doubt many last 3 to 4 years.
For Android, nobody selling Android phones profits from repairs or software upgrades.
Lol! So, it’s not just me who has had that experience.
I guess the manufacterers think: “Who’s going to pay a lawyer, then run to the courtroom, with a lawsuit over a GD lightbulb? We’re safe!”
The phone is sealed and I bet most people think they need a new $1,000 phone when the battery does not charge well anymore instead of just being able to replace the $10 battery.
Learn to heat up the glue so you can replace the battery.

Who said anything about “need to”? There’s a large number of people who trade in their cars every 2 to 3 years.
The Eskimos will eventually be forced to upgrade to 5g handsets.
I know AT&T customers that were given a new iPhone for free, to move the customer off of their 2g/3g network.
Want an Apple Watch? You’ll need a new enough handset to setup & upgrade the watch.
Gates set the standard...we’re on what...11...
If the rumors of an Apple headset are true, I wouldn’t be surprised if a new iPhone is required to drive the headset.
See how Apple tracks the parts you use if you want to repair your property!
Other companies like John Deere do not want you to repair your property. Same for cars where if your side mirror does not work you have to replace a computer board that costs a lot because it is tied into other components on the car. In the old days it was just a cable that might need to be replaced.

“Just had Apple replace an iPhone battery. Done in their store, in an hour.”
What was the cost, and what did you pay for the iPhone? Just curious.
nope
