Jeb Bush says plunging US math, reading scores should be 'call to arms'
Fox News ^ | 24 Oct 2022 | Joshua Q. Nelson

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush sounded the alarm on U.S. math and reading scores plummeting in the aftermath of COVID-19 school lockdowns.

Math scores saw their largest decreases ever, while reading scores dropped to levels not seen since 1992 for fourth and eighth graders across the country, according to the Nation’s Report Card.

"It's a disaster," Bush told "America’s Newsroom" Monday. "I guess it should be expected that if you spend two years out of the classroom -- in many cases, we had a problem before, and it's gotten a lot worse. So this should be a call to arms."

Bush went on to say, "We should put aside the hyper-partisanship that dominates life in Washington and realize that this really is important, that kids learn how to read and learn how to calculate math in a way that allows them to live a life of purpose and meaning. And right now, that is at risk. I notice lots of things that could be done."

The “call to arms” should have been happening decades ago...
Damage is done and will take decade or two to rectify.

Properly, this is “product placement” self-marketing, as another Bush tries to keep himself in the headlines. And — it worked again. Name brand, but alas he hasn't noticed that his brand has waned.

Remember that study, titled “A Nation at Risk”? Wasn’t that study done back in the Reagan years, sometime in the 1980s?

There’s a heck of lot to discuss, if we want to discuss problems in our schools. The shutdown of schools just magnified the existing problems.

I can remember decades ago, some elderly relatives said members of the family wanted to live in New York City, because of the fine quality of NYC schools. Can you imagine anyone saying that today, about any big city school system?

Jeb is the type of conservative who’s a good conservative when the stream is flowing your direction, making for easy “swimming.”

Yep. A lot of kids were terribly hosed from the shut downs. Will be difficult or nearly impossible for many to make their way back. It is a really deep hole we dug.

How many corporate boards is this slug on today - 2022?
__________

Bush served on the boards or as an adviser to 11 companies or nonprofits at a time each year from 2010 to 2013, The Associated Press found. Those ties were in addition to his own businesses, such as Jeb Bush & Associates, and the educational foundations he created.

In 2010 Bush served on the board of directors of eight different entities, as adviser to a ninth company and advisory board member for two others. In 2013, he served on six boards, as an adviser to another company and on the advisory board of four more entities.

The ONLY reason the federal government should be involved in education is to make sure we have a workforce that can meet our national security needs.

If we want to maintain strength in technology, energy, chemistry, computer science, AI, medicine, aerospace, etc, we should be funding or incentivizing the colleges for that. DoE lost its way with all the worthless gender study and other crap degrees that only find work in govt offices.

Grade schools should be prepping students for that STEM college material or for trades. And no more grooming FFS.

Is that a terrorist threat when Jeb says it? If Trump had said it, they’d likely start another Congressional Star Chamber.
