How Trump Vanquished One-Time Conservative Contenders (what an enoyable article!)

News that Ben Sasse would likely be leaving the U.S. Senate to become president of the University of Florida has aroused varied commentary—most of it critical of Sasse. But one take has probably been underrated—Sasse’s exodus is merely the latest example of how Trump has vanquished an entire generation of once-promising young conservative stars from politics.

Think about it. When Donald Trump came down that escalator in 2015, the Republican Party was about to field what was then seen as an impressive and diverse array of future young conservative stars. The names included Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Sen. Marco Rubio, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, and Sen. Ted Cruz. (There was also Rand Paul and Chris Christie, among others—though they fall just outside the Gen-X category.) While I might not compare them to the quarterback class of 1983 (John Elway, Jim Kelly, and Dan Marino), the field felt pretty stacked at the time.

Take Jindal, for example. He was the first Indian-American governor, he had been a congressman, and he had served as secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (among other jobs). And he was just 46 years old! Today, he sells aluminum siding in Yazoo City, Mississippi. Okay, I’m kidding. I have no idea what he’s doing—and that’s precisely my point.

Half of them were humiliated and eventually co-opted by Trump (Rubio and Cruz), while the other half were essentially pushed out of electoral politics (Jindal and Walker)—for the time being, at least.

And then, there were other rising stars on the bench who didn’t run for president in 2016. Take Nikki Haley, the then-governor of South Carolina. After endorsing Rubio in the primaries (and attacking Trump), she miraculously managed to not only become Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations, but also get out relatively unscathed.

I have no words to describe my pleasure that the democrats are suffering so much these days. I truly belive that the America First crowd will turn out on election day and deliver an epic result.

This will make 1994 look like child’s play. I really believe that.

His rising stars list is all fake conservatives.

Jindal? Really? I don’t care for first this or first that.

What’s next? A left wing, left handed lesbian ex lacrosse player from Loyola?

I don’t buy your second paragraph. Dems say much worse daily and never seem to alienate voters.

Their idiots just vote D.

Trump’s biggest crime, in the minds of the political establishment of this country, is that he revealed how feckless, corrupt and incompetent they are.

* * *

A beautifully succinct statement of truth — and Trump’s unmatched legacy.

I like what DeSantis is doing, but only when he starts calling out fellow Republican politicians for their hypocrisy can we believe the MAGA King has an heir apparent.

If she plays her cards right, I think Kari Lake has a decent chance some day of wearing the MAGA crown.

For democrats to win All they need is every democrat vote.
And yet it's no secret, they still have to cheat.

Hillary lost to Trump because she didn't cheat. She was fooled by the bogus polls. Apparently she didn't have "every Democrat" vote for her.

Biden: "we have put together, I think, the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics," Biden said during a campaign event."

Reagan was elected with 2 landslides because he had "Reagan Democrats"

You are counting on Democrats to defeat Trump. Some people know what American's want no matter what party they're in.

Bushes don’t hate the country.

Yes, they do. Note the company they seek/keep. W loves him some Big Mike. W also loves him some Clinton as well. They are all best buds. Do you consider the Clinton's and Obama's to be FRiends of America? The Bush's are also all in on open borders and the invasion taking place today. 'See you at the signing' said W, as he expected to be able to sign another amnesty for the illegals. Of course they also love them some perpetual wars. Yes, the Bush's hate America and everything about US.

The fact that you can’t stand the rinos is no evidence that they hate the country.

OK; they love "advancing their brand" more than the country, or their job in government, or the vow they took to the Constitution. The article even implied so about Sasse.

Get with the times. Trump revealed the corruption in DC; Democrat overreach into schools, homes, healthcare and the workplace in this administration has highlighted the Evil Party's malicious schemes, even to the low-info voters.

New voter registration data show GOP making major gains and surpassing Democrats in key states
“No one thought of Kentucky and West Virginia as Democratic-leaning states anymore, even though … the Democrats still had a registration advantage there,” [political analyst Larry Sabato] said. “I think what you’re seeing is that party registration is coming a little bit more into alignment with actual partisanship than it had in the past.”

Rinos are worthless and self centered. It’s a jump to claim they are traitorous unless they are.

I am aware of what current political trends are which is why the gop will take the house and senate.

Democrats and independents will vote gop this election.

This is neither rocket science nor political science.

Bushes don’t hate the country, they just hate the people that live here. They want to replace the people that live here.

Democrats have voting blocs that Republicans don’t have. Dead people, felons and illegal aliens consistently vote for Democrats, often more than once. It’s easy to see how one might call that a majority when you combine it with the large number of members of special interests and aggrieved groups.

Regardless of the identity of the groups the reality is that there are more democrats than others
