Former President Donald Trump was issued a subpoena Friday by the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
The committee, which voted unanimously on the move, is demanding Trump’s testimony under oath next month as well as records relevant to the probe into the attack, which the panel noted came after weeks of him denying losing the 2020 election to President Joe Biden.
The panel had said on Oct. 13 that it would subpoena Trump, whose supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as a joint session of Congress met to confirm Biden’s victory.
“We recognize that a subpoena to a former President is a significant and historic action,” the panel’s leaders wrote Trump in a letter Friday.
“We do not take this action lightly.”
Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and Republican Vice Chairwoman Liz Cheney of Wyoming, in the letter cited what they called Trump’s central role in a deliberate, “multi-part effort” to reverse his loss in the 2020 presidential election, and to remain in power.
The subpoena says that Trump would be deposed on Nov. 14, after the midterm elections.
It is not clear whether Trump will comply with the subpoena.
My prediction is that Trump will file whatever legal challenges he has available to him before November 14th … and if those fail he will simply assert his Fifth Amendment protections and refuse to show up.
I’m of the belief that it would be a huge mistake for Trump to appear. Anyway, here’s my question: Doesn’t a subpoena have to be personally served to the targeted person?
So if a process server cannot get to Trump, the whole thing is moot, right?

Meant to rally the Democrat base.
Let’s see if the J6 committee is still around on November 14. I know it will take time to swear in the new representatives, but they may be told in no uncertain terms what will happen to the folks that try such a stunt.
Big mistake. This will only agitate the base. Their hubris makes it impossible for them to understand their opponents. This is why they will fail.
The last thing they want is for Trump to actually show up.

How ironic that Cheney expressed concern about Trump’s actions to remain in power yet she has shown herself willing to do almost anything to keep her own position. She’s a hypocrite of the highest order and is therefore a natural fit for the Democrat Party.

Off the rails? Boy, I guess, but did you notice that Bennie addressed his letter to “President Trump?” Maybe he sees Nov. 8 coming in the tunnel-—like a big light. Gave himself a few days slack by waiting until 11/14?
The committee will still be there, because everyone on the committee is a member of Congress until Jan. 3, 2023, regardless of what happens in the Nov. 8 elections. Whether anyone pays attention to the committee is another matter. They don’t seem to have made much impression up until now.

I have not seen evidence that Trump was involved or even suggested "storming the capitol." Ray Epps....?
I’m confident that Trump is happy about this. A good time to introduce some evidence and bring public humiliation to the deep state.
