Australia has reversed a previous government’s recognition of west Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the foreign minister said Tuesday, prompting consternation from Israel.
The center-left Labor Party government Cabinet agreed to again recognize Tel Aviv as the capital and reaffirmed that Jerusalem’s status must be resolved in peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, Foreign Minister Penny Wong said.
Australia remained committed to a two-party solution to the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, and “we will not support an approach that undermines this prospect,” Wong said.
Israel’s Prime Minister Yair Lapid expressed disappointment in Australia’s changed position.
“Jerusalem is the eternal undivided capital of Israel and nothing will change that,” Lapid said in a statement.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry said it will summon the Australian ambassador over the issue. …

Well what the heck. Since when has Israel been cozy with China? That seems weird, US left was always slow-walking Israel. Will this bring the Biden cabal closer to them now?
Ain’t that just like a shiela.
Foreign Policy mag, eh.
You must be joking. Israel turned into a full-blown Nazi country during the COVID mess.
I rather thought you might say something like that. 👍
The ChiComs took Australia the same way they did the Solomons.
They bought its pols.
Sun Ting Wong with that.
I was here. Yes, they made you wear masks in Jerusalem and in the local store and synagogue. “full-blown Nazi”? Not hardly.
“Whoever blesses Israel will be blessed,
And whoever curses Israel will be cursed.” Numbers 24:9
How about you give us an explanation of Israel’s vaccine mandate and its “Green Pass” verification system.
Why do you suspect China?
Chinese name.
Israel has close relations with China.
As does Australia, the United States, and half the world that ought to know better.-
Most hilarious is Colin Kaepernik, who won’t shut up about America’s history of slavery, while in China Uigher slaves crank out Nikes until they drop.
Wish I could get shut of China at least personnally, but this new computer I just got, I’ve discovered was made in China, too.
That’s a far cry from “full-blown Nazi”. Sorry to tell you, but nobody was transported to camps or ghetto-ized. There were no gas chambers for the anti-vaxers. You just couldn’t enter public buildings and the like. Hyperbole much?
Australia had a nationwide man hunt for a man who wanted to go down to his local pub for a pint. Also not “full-blown Nazi,” but enough that I shouldn’t care much whether or not the Australian government recognizes Jerusalem as my nation’s capitol. It was very good that Trump did, but that’s not what made it our capitol. That was the result of about four millennia of history, and neither the US or Australia were around back then.
Only took two posts. WTF is happening in Australia? What a mess over there. New Zealand is worse.
Wong is wrong.
Australia is a Chinese Colony.
I wouldn’t call it a total 180 on Australia, but it’s pretty dang
close my opinion of Australia these days.
Doubt anyone is losing much sleep over this. Of course by not recognizing "west" Jerusalem as Israel's capital Australia recognizes no capital of Israel since it's modern emergence as a state. Odd, they recognized Israel in 1949 but won't allow Israel a capital apparently bowing to palestinian demands for a veto of it's existence. Said veto in palestinian minds extending far beyond recognition of a capital
I’m sure many of your fellow Australians feel the same way. Is it possible to get her out of power? Do the people get to decide these things or is it those in government. Just asking because I don’t know how your government works. I have been to your country and I loved it. I came close to moving there some years ago (actually back in the 80’s). I especially loved the “Milk Bars”. Do you all still have those?
How about bingbang wallawalla bingbang?
Might be the 1949 recognition wasn’t even valid, because they were part of the British Commonwealth at the time, so if the UK hadn’t recognized Israel at that time, the Australian recognition is suspect, too. Like what if the state of Vermont decided to go around recognizing countries. Now Australia is a sovereign state, so its action has more meaning. But in 1949? I suppose exchanging ambassadors since then would count, so the question is now moot.
