The House select committee investigating the US Capitol insurrection long ago dropped the notion of being a narrowly focused quest for the facts as members use their probe to try to defend democracy in its intensifying struggle with Donald Trump.
The panel returns to the public eye Thursday after its late-summer break with a televised hearing that sources tell CNN will serve as a pre-midterms warning that the ex-President is a clear and present danger to free elections.
But are the American people listening? And do the committee’s efforts to undermine Trump’s cadre of election denier candidates in 2022 and vow to ensure he never again tastes presidential power have any chance of success?
Polls repeatedly show that voters see the economy – a far more visceral issue in daily life than the threat to American democracy – as their top concern. Their anxiety was explained by new data Wednesday from the Producer Price Index, a key measure of inflation showing the price of goods and services rose at an annual pace of 8.5% in September. Grocery bills are just a pain right now. Frozen potato products are up 10%, pork products that are not sausages are 5.5% more expensive. While it would be too simplistic to say voters are more preoccupied with the cost of French fries than the price of democratic freedoms, it wouldn’t be far from the mark.

Compelling evidence — with no rebuttal by Republicans allowed?
Well, expensive fries are a fact. So, yeah.
“... – a far more visceral issue in daily life than the threat to American democracy –...?
No, the majority of people don’t see a 3 hour riot, as opposed to almost 1,000 riots, as a threat to democracy, nor do they see opinions that differ from the Biden regime as a threat to democracy.
The kool-aide is strong at CNN. A kangaroo court's evidence often looks compelling. It is only compelling when there is no credible defense, opposing arguments, rebuttal.
They like to abuse the term "compelling evidence", just like "debunked" and "baseless".
I love eating my french fries. It may be unhealthy, but at least I get some enjoyment from eating them. The sham hearing? A huge waste of precious taxpayer money whose sole purpose is to help democrats distract the public from actual issues and try and prevent Trump from running again.
The show trial will end with a sigh for its lack of hard evidence, congressional procedure, bipartisanship and a cross examination.
History will give the panel the sideward glance of a mean high school girl.
Yes we have been told it is compelling.
Haven’t we all been on the edge of our seats, waiting for the next episode of the Liz Cheney Show???
The evidence is compelling to Liz Cheney and the liberals.
These people tell us that January 6 was a crime against humanity, and that the government was almost overthrown. Apparently they believe that, or want us to believe, that the government was almost overthrown, except for the bravery of certain Democrats.
President is a clear and present danger to free elections.
Yes Biden by the millions of illegals may already have their name on ballots and sent around the country.
“They really got him this time”
$2.95 at McD’s for a “small” order in my area!
Liz cheneys humiliating defeat is proof positive the j6 doings are a sham.
They always have been a “Get Trump and get Trump only” affair. They were never looking to ascertain the truth. They knew the truth.
“compelling evidence”...LOL
Nails it.
CNN and the MSM would know this if they ever bothered to talk to Americans.
And as such, any and all measures from imprisonment to assassination are moral.
Never trust a democrat for a reason their history.
Wonder how many called Hillary and Bill?.
What “compelling evidence”? Inference, innuendo, fabrications and implication is not evidence.
“Defend our democracy” has become an open admission that the writer can’t get any more specific because not only is there no evidence, there was no crime in the first place. The members of this farce were attempting to fabricate another Watergate out of thin air and can’t believe it has failed.
As the song goes (Phil Collins...."Do you Remember?")....
......it's all been a pack of lies."
