CNN’s Jake Tapper asked President Joe Biden Tuesday about potential criminal charges hitting his son Hunter, and the president responded with nothing but love and admiration for whom he once called the “smartest man” he knows.
Last week, it was reported that federal prosecutors gathered enough evidence “months ago” to charge Hunter Biden with multiple crimes related to taxes and lying to investigators about a gun purchase, according to The Washington Post. Tapper asked Biden how he reacts to the news about his son “personally and politically.”
“Well first of all, I’m proud of my son,” the president began. “This is a kid who got, not a kid he’s a grown man, he got hooked on, like many families have had happen, hooked on drugs. He’s overcome that, he’s established a new life.”
No charges have yet to be filed against Biden’s 52-year-old son after the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden’s business dealings began in 2018. As the investigation grew, multiple agencies scrutinized whether he paid all the taxes that he was required to and whether he lied on an ATF Form 4473 background check while purchasing a firearm.
Only the U.S. attorney in Delaware holds the authority to move forward with charging Hunter Biden with crimes. The president, however, suggested to Tapper that he’s not too worried about Hunter falling into big trouble.
“I’m confident that what he says and does are consistent with what happens,” Biden said.
“I have great confidence in my son,” he added. “I love him, and he’s on the straight and narrow, and he has been for a couple years now, and I’m just so proud of him.”
Ryan Saavedra contributed to this report.
I can’t believe how stupid the conservative commentators are that they discuss possible criminal charges against Hunter as if anything is going to be handled fairly with respect to him.
Obviously he should be interrogative and the demands should be to know everything about his father’s activities and involvement and instead that’s going to be completely covered up and they are going to give him a sweetheart deal plea bargain. His father is signaling that to the prosecutors with these supportive comments.
Term limits term limits term limits. Will never happen. These vermin get to spend forty years in DC doing zilch for anyone but themselves, then walk away billionaires. Great country or what?
You can't make this stuff up.
It finally dawned on me, our President is really Frank Gallagher.
He doesn’t care, he will just pardon him
What else would anyone expect him to say about his own son?
“I have great confidence in my son” ... to keep the grift going strong and keep paying Mr. Big his 10%.
Hunter needs WATERBOARDED. However, say that to Hunter and he will think Water-Bong. Squeeze the Dope Head until he pops.
And the chances of that happening are ZERO, ZILCH, NADA as long as ONE Demon-Rat prosecutor is allowed to pipe up in defense of the Dope Head and his Corrupt, Senile, Pedo FATHER!!!
Not just Hunter but everyone connected to the Biden crime family. Biden Presidential pardon is why they can party and threaten and trash talk their opponents with impunity.
Biden Presidential pardon = throwing a trump card. No pun intended.
Jo Jo is right. His criminal “son” is an above average criminal. Jo Jo can be proud.
If I had been drummed out of the Navy for drugs, my dad would have disowned me.

Hunter sent inappropriate pictures to your grand daughter.......”I’m so proud of him”............
I don’t expect a father to speak unfavorably of his child.
Joe’s proud of his son. That sounds like an admission of his own guilt.
Let’s get Mr Straight and Narrow into a courtroom already.
The whole country as seen the evidence already. How about the Brandon just Shut Up about it and stop prejudicing judges and jurors.
Godfathers sound like Joey when their son takes over the business and crews.
Really??
He doesn’t behave like any clean and sober person I know
You are right! We shouldn't be surprised at Joe speaking well of his son.
In the words of Al Capone's mother, "My Al, he's a good boy!"
I just bet he is. Hunter is a chip off the old block.
