Outcry as thousands of prisoners are set to be RELEASED from jail when Illinois becomes first state to introduce no cash bail in January: State attorneys desperately sue Gov Pritzker amid fears already spiraling crime will soar

Thousands of prisoners are set to be released across Illinois as it becomes the first state to completely do away with cash bail under a new law that goes into effect in January.

The Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today Act (SAFE-T Act) completely abolishes the cash bail system, which critics say disproportionately impacts black and brown communities and other underrepresented or impoverished groups.

Under the law, anyone who is arrested may be released back on to the streets based on the assumption of innocence guarantee under the United States Constitution, though criminals accused of certain crimes — like forcible felonies, stalking and domestic abuse — will be exempt from pretrial release.

It was first proposed by the Illinois Black Caucus in response to the May 2020 killing of George Floyd, and was signed into law by Gov JB Pritzker on February 22, 2021.

As a result, Illinois became the first state to completely abolish cash bail, though other states, like New York, New Jersey, New Mexico, Kentucky and California have created reforms to their bail laws over the past few years.

But ever since it was signed into law, Illinois law enforcement officials have warned that the SAFE-T Act will embolden criminals and make it harder to keep offenders off the streets, as crime rates are already spiraling out of control in Chicago.

Critics have compared it to The Purge, a movie in which the U.S. decriminalizes all crime for 24-hours.

And in just one county, officials report that 400 prisoners there will be released once the law goes into effect.

Why would anyone who is charged with a serious crime and has significant evidence against them not flee?

I wonder why that could be.

Old advice: Be aware of your surroundings. And try to avoid strangers coming up to ask for something outside.

Staffing is down so try not to bleed on the floor when they kill you.

NOT apologizing for being cynical. I’m the guy who hates the jury system and system of “justice” in my many posts.

And I am bitter about the Jan.6 victims of the system in prison now for nothing.

Glad you asked that question. When Napoleon was on the outskirts of Moscow the Tsar evacuated the city and opened the jails.

If the prisoners killed French soldiers they would be permitted to go free.

So...someone views the public as an invading force to be defeated...and is letting the criminals out to deal with the “little people”.

If a criminal bags an innocent civilian he will be allowed to go free due to “equity”.

Since the 1980s or earlier, urban types would say "he looked at me" as the trigger for bludgeoning or slashing or shooting someone.

Looking at them.

It’s a free for all now. Criminals can do anything they want now. Democrats are allowing them to kill, rape, steal and destroy. Democrats are responsible for what happens.

Hide a cache of weapons around the house. If someone is breaking in; you may not have time to open your safe

Aim, let breathe half way out. 2 rounds to the head, 1 center mass. Practice at the range makes this a habit

If using a .45; two rounds Center mass should be all the convincing required. I shoot 9mm; so I am more generous with ammo. I also send the best Hollow points I can find; why be cheap when it matters most?

So all the restaurants & stores will go out of business.

Except for the invitation-only places for the elites.
