To understand the scale of the climate emergency, look at hurricanes
The Guardian ^ | October 1, 2022 | By Peter Kalmus

I became a climate activist 16 years ago. Back then, not many people cared about climate change. The eye rolls were audible. Media coverage was scarce, and what little there was glibly included “both sides”. It was frustrating and tragic to see such a clear and present danger and to know that it was still mostly avoidable, yet ignored by society.

I assumed that intensifying, in-your-face climate disasters would serve as a sort of backstop to finally force action. I even hoped that humanity would listen to scientists and start acting before things got that bad. I didn’t think this was too much to expect; after all, the scientific fundamentals are easy enough to grasp.

But things have turned out worse than I dreamed possible. I underestimated the depth and intransigence of society’s collective climate denial.

To understand what an emergency we are now in, you only need to look at a few of the most recent disasters. Hurricane Ian has just pummeled Cuba and Florida. The full extent of the disaster will only be revealed in the coming days and weeks, although first looks are shocking. But we do know with certainty that Ian was supercharged by global heating through several well-understood fundamental physics pathways.

In short, it has been a summer of climate insanity. But even so, this will be, on average, the coolest summer with the least climate chaos for the rest of your life. That is just the nature of trends. It should be terrifying.

Rising global heat is driving all the chaos. About 80% and 15% of global heating is due to the fossil fuel and animal agriculture industries, respectively. So long as these global industries exist, the planet will keep heating and climate chaos will keep getting worse. It’s that simple, and that inexorable.

There are actually far fewer hurricanes in recent decades. And what “super-charged” Ian is that it hit Florida from the east and reached all the way across to the Atlantic and the gulf similar to an island.

This is called “weather”.

There’s also a LOT more people living in areas now that hurricanes can impact.

Population of Florida 1950 2.8m
Population of Florida 2022 22m

Utter and complete BS.

What is he talking about? An Inconvenient Truth was released in 2004. And even before that - and ever since - not a day goes by without warnings from the scientific community about the disastrous effects of climate change on some characteristic of the earth and our economic and physical lives. A constant drumbeat of we're all domed! And all false.

The High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, or HAARP.

Can alter upper atmosphere charge and pressure

The real catastrophe is that he was ever unlocked.

Climate fanatic permanently chained to big bank sounds like a win-win for the planet.

The Summer of Sam... The Summer of George... and now.... The Summer of Climate Insanity!

I posit that there is climate insanity - and it all comes from the left. Exhibit A: Greta Thunberg!

It’s not carbon dioxide. It is witchcraft! I suggest we toss cold water on Nanzi and see if she melts.

So what the author is really proselytizing for is a reduction in global population of about 50%. Because that's how many people will die if these industries are abolished.

Climate change is real.

Glaciers have receded, thankfully, and the Planet has warmed enough for populations to prosper with longer growing seasons and less energy needed for habitation.

Pray for a continuance of this trend.

What a F**ing idiot. Rising temps do nothing. Yah should have paid some attention in most any STEM class.
It is temp differentials that move things. The temp difference between the poles and the equator drives wind/etc towards the equator. The greater the diff, the more wind/etc.
We know from geological evidence that when earth warms its poles warm faster — thus reducing the temp differential. A warming planet has less severe weather.

So, if your illusions about worsening storms is true, earth is cooling.
