I think that was the Jefferson Parish President. He regularly dissolved into tears when faced with a crisis.

Unbelievably premature to make that statement IMO.

At least it was only ONE chunk and not the whole roadway. It will take time to rebuild for sure.

Very thoughtful post. God Bless the poor people of Florida who were caught up in the force of this storm—as you said, by mischance.

True enough but they lie so often that they are irrelevant.

Rescue operations during and after a hurricane are the responsibility of state and local authorities. The federal government supplies logistics and financial support. I think it is interesting how well states support each other during these disasters. Also corporations supply support, look at how the power companies work together. The federal government is only one of many that play a part in dealing things.

For days, Tampa was the target. It was only the last 24-36 hours when they realized it would make landfall further South. The area it hit lies pretty low and is mostly retirees.

Then I would expect the phone call to be from FEMA, rather than the president.

Of course. He provoked the hurricane. He told global warming, “bring it on!”, so it did, especially after he forbade teachers from encouraging little kids to get their pishy parts switched and calling each other racists.

There are two kinds of people in the world—those who blame others and those who roll up their sleeves and do the hard work to deal with problems.

Obviously the mass media talking heads are in the first group.

Actually they only have to drive one hour East to Ctrl FL. Takes all of two hours to get from one coast to the other. I lived in Ctrl FL for 25 years and hurricanes were always pretty well weakened by the time they made it that far inland. Plenty of hotels/motels. Of course those cost money that a lot of retirees don’t have. Many can’t handle driving further than their local stores either.

For the well to do people on Sanibel Island, not much excuse.

I agree. Same with the word “rescue.” Some are more or less trapped in their homes, but, if they have food and water, they’ll be fine.

No, driving 3 or 4 hours north does not guarantee your safety. The storm could follow right up I-75.
