King Charles III will surprise us. The man whose family has served as the physical symbols of colonialism has spent his life trying to free his mind from the calcified prejudices of empire. Britain’s new head of state is a loud admirer of Islam, a critic of Western interventionism and a champion of multiculturalism who will win his country new friends — and some populist enemies — across the world.
The new king has for decades sought to free himself from what he calls “Western materialism” by immersing himself in the world’s second-largest faith. As the Prince of Wales, he threw himself into the study of Islamic textiles, gardens and architecture. But he did not stop there. The king has also studied Arabic to understand the Quran.

He laid out a carpet garden at his beloved home at Highgrove that was inspired by Islamic designs with the plants mentioned in the Quran. He is patron of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies and his Prince’s Foundation’s School of Traditional Arts teaches a wide range of courses on Islamic traditions. He has made visiting Muslim shrines, holy places and even the hugely important Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo part of his royal travels. Some of Charles’s ancestors were wiped out in the bolchevik revolution. England almost got wiped out by the Nazis. Charles figures if he is nice to the muzzies they will leave him alone and won’t kill him. The pope may be trying the same strategy.
Huge difference in people from a western european culture who spoke english assimilating into an almost identical culture and people from a latin american culture who don’t speak english.
According to someone on this site who actually knows Charles. Charles would fit in well here. His views are for the most part ‘conservative’, but we must remember ‘English Conservative’. There are differences. The biggest issue we would have with him is environmentalism. As far as Charles’s religious views go, again would fit in well here. Charles is personally closer to his father’s Greek Orthodoxy then Anglicanism but as head of the Anglican Church he must adhere to it by law. He also must do public PR things in support of whatever political flavor of UK government is in power even if personally distasteful. He’s a constitutional monarch not a monarch of old or a storybook one where his word is law. He’s a human being whose role is to be a symbol not a human being. I wouldn’t want the job!
According, to this FR member the view commonly held here is the ‘media view’ constructed from hearing\seeing\reading both MSMs on either side of the Atlantic. Almost totally a hostile\skeptical ‘artificial’ view.
Now should we take this FR member’s view uncritically?
No! However, he’s met him and is friends with him. Yes, he could be lying about that. IMO I don’t think so.

Charles is tainted with scandal. As if the whole drama around Diana wasn’t enough...there is the current scandal over pay for play.
He is talking about giving away Balmoral. He is very aware of how it looks to have all these mansions while Brits are hurting. Will be interesting to see if he kicks Andrew out of the 31 bedroom mansion.
Diana was a nut case..not as bad a Meghan Markle..but her persona was loved by the public and has reached folk lore status.
I think many would rather have William but will just have to suffer through Charles while they wait.
I think you will find immigration could have been limited or even eliminated and the population would be over 300 million.
Doubt he has any real friends. It’s hard making friends as a royal.
