My map search function shows Pine Island to be north of Tampa and Hudson. Is there a second Pine Island in the vicinity of Ft. Myers? If not he should be fine as the winds will be a lot less as will the storm surge.

You’ll see Pine Island below Ft. Myers

Pine Island lies between the mainland around Cape Coral and the barrier islands of Captiva, North Captiva, and Cayo Costa. It’s where you johnboat over to North Captiva from.
