Hurricane Ian
NHC/NOAA ^ | 23 September 2022 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2022 2:32:24 AM PDT by NautiNurse

The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

Hospital trying to decide whether we’re going on Team A and Team B or just business as usual. Tricky because track is...iffy. We know a few miles can make a huge difference in effects.

I’ve wondered what it’d be like riding out a hurricane or tropical storm in a place like Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas? That fort has been around since before the Civil War and has survived for a long time.

Obviously, it’s gonna be really windy and rainy but you’re high enough up from the ocean. I’ll bet it’s got to be more than a little un-nerving though.

Good luck with the work schedule. At this time, the wind field extends 115 from the center for TS force, and 25 miles from the center for hurricane force winds.

I think the entire state should prep as best as they can. The way I see it, just assume that the outer edge of that NHC cone of uncertainty is where the eye will actually go, for your situation, and prepare accordingly. I’m already trying to protect my windows, and I have a tree service coming later this morning.

Saddest thing is that I’m going to be picking as many unripe lemons as I can off my lemon tree in the backyard, since I don’t want the lemons breaking off and becoming missiles. They might as well be rocks.

My wife’s hospital decided to wait until the thing passes Cuba before deciding A/B or normal.

I picked a couple of armloads of avocados yesterday. Fortunately, we have lots of tortilla chips to make guac.

Yeah, if my lemons were ripe, I could use bottled water to make lots of warm lemonade, if it decided to go west.

Checking in from Cape Coral Zone B. They’re still not sure if it’s going to take an easterly track.

Were you in Cape Coral during Hurricane Charley? It was a great lesson in “be prepared.”

I’ll be safe. I’m far away from this storm, but my family is in the line of fire extensively. They are pretty concerned and are prepping now. Street cams will help me see for a while.
