Hurricane Ian
NHC/NOAA ^ | 23 September 2022 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2022 2:32:24 AM PDT by NautiNurse

The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

You are welcome. I have some relatives in the Houston area that live near the Brazos river. The levee system came dangerously close over topping during hurricane Harvey and the year before because of torrential rains up stream. People that live in these areas have to monitor river levels..

Just to clarify, I live in VA. The report I posted was by friends who live in FL - on Sanibel (or should I say “used to live”). They are currently staying in VA.

Interview with Randy Wayne White in this article. He rode out the storm at his home on Sanibel.

Have a friend who was in living in Rockport at time of Harvey she evacuated with pets to a friends place almost within sight of the Brazos. Came very close to having to evacuate twice.

That’s crazy! On the other hand, he survived to write a book about it.

On closer inspection, looks like RWW was rescued from Sanibel after 4 hours. He didn’t stay through the storm.

Before the storm hit I saw one report that claimed the Fla. West Coast was one of the most vulnerable areas in the county. The dollar amount alone that it would take to clean up the damage from what we just saw was over 100 billion. ,I didn’t believe it at the time. Now Im beginning to wonder.

Naples/Marco Island alone are worth several hundred million. If storm had come up into Tampa Bay, I can’t fathom the costs.

The Brazos river at my relative’s location is currently under 9 feet. During Harvey it topped out at 55.19. There would have been massive damage if the levees were over topped and failed...

I just heard that northbound I-75 may be open this afternoon. Still doesn’t improve getting supplies into the disaster zone.

I’m looking for a place to send some money that is feeding the first responders and the linemen. Our son lives in Colorado so when they have fires out there and I find out where the fire fighters are being fed I send a little money to help out. I don’t care if it’s deductible and in fact I don’t really trust the big charities.
