Germany Military Must Become Europe's 'Best Equipped': Scholz

ermany is ready to take a leading role in ensuring Europe's security, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Friday, vowing to transform the country's military into the "best equipped" on the continent.

Branding Vladimir Putin's Russia the "biggest threat" to NATO, Scholz said Europe had to be prepared to face up to the challenge.

"We are making it convincingly clear: Germany is ready to take on leading responsibility for the security of our continent," he told an army congress.

"As the most populous country with the greatest economic power and as a country in the middle of the continent, our army must become the cornerstone of conventional defence in Europe, the best equipped force in Europe."

Haunted by two world wars, Germany has always trod lightly and quietly on the world stage when it came to conflicts and military matters.

Scholz said the German army had for too long taken on roles such as "drilling wells, ensuring humanitarian help, stemming floods, also helping with vaccinations during the pandemic".

Reading this thread has proven the validity of a statement I’ve often made on this forum.

The only thing wrong with Europe is Europeans.

If the wheels were to fall off the German ecomony they might look for a strongman to lead them to the glorious German destiny. Wonder who

Getting rid of the Sholz government should be a priority for the average German who I believe is much less interested in going to war with Russia than the EU elites are.

Remove Sholz, stop sending arms to Ukraine, turn on NordStream-2, and watch the economy rebound...its not rocket science

The German objective can be easily obtained.

The only other contending European nation is France.

Most of Europe thrived off cheap Russian energy for decades.

Not just energy either...grain, fertilzer, uranium, and a range of other raw materials.

Look at what happens in Africa over last 7 years. It seems like Euroidiots are going to lose more than just Russian resources.

Once the Germans were all war-like and mean
But that couldn’t happen again

We taught them a lesson in 1918
And they’ve hardly bothered us since then

France bears as much blame as Germany. France couldn’t handle the fact that even years after Napoleon, there was a new kid on the block in Europe.

The world would have been saved a lot of grief had France not allied with Czar Nicky before 1914.

There is a difference between killing people and plague killing people.

Very few Indians died at white hands and that was just normal fighting.

Putin started that Georgian war, come on.
This is that aggression against the near-abroad thats his modus operandi.
He could have let everything alone and minded his own business. The good neighbor thing, that does not require airstrikes and tank columns.

Nope he didn’t. Read the Tagliavini report by OSCE. It is positively anti-Russian but makes clear that none of the Georgian and Pentagon arguments regarding the start of war are true.
