US inflation falls for 2nd straight month on lower gas costs
The Associated Press ^ | September 13, 2022 | By CHRISTOPHER RUGABER

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sharply lower prices for gas and cheaper used cars slowed U.S. inflation in August for a second straight month, though many other items rose in price, indicating that inflation remains a heavy burden for American households.

Consumer prices surged 8.3% in August compared with a year earlier, the government said Tuesday. Though still painfully high, that was down from an 8.5% jump in July and a four-decade high of 9.1% in June. On a monthly basis, prices rose 0.1%, after a flat reading in July.

Inflation remains far higher than many Americans have ever experienced.

Republicans have sought to make inflation a central issue in the midterm congressional elections. They blame President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package passed last year for much of the increase. Many economists generally agree, though they also say that snarled supply chains, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and widespread shortages of items like semiconductors have been key factors in the inflation surge.

Yet the signs that inflation might have peaked — or will soon — could bolster Democrats’ prospects in the midterm elections and may already have contributed to slightly higher public approval ratings for Biden. In his speeches, Biden has generally stopped referring to the impact of high prices on family budgets. He has instead highlighted his administration’s recent legislative accomplishments, including a law enacted last month that’s intended to reduce pharmaceutical prices and fight climate change.

One sure way to fix inflation fast is a deep recession.

F that.

Lower taxes and raise import tariffs. Hold govt. spendng at present levels. Drill baby, drill. WE DONT NEED NO STINKING RECESSION.

next story down on my newsfeed here:

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/09/12/stock-futures-are-higher-as-wall-street-awaits-key-inflation-report-.html

said the market DROPPED 400 pts on inflation news.

Traditionally, “CORE INFLATION” is reported WITHOUT including “energy costs.”

All of a sudden they’re being used to fudge the numbers.

Where real inflation is: groceries. Our grocery bill, just the two of us, has more than doubled in the past year.

a freaking bag of corn chips is over $5 now, a $2 pot pie (comfort food) is a few cents short of $4, hamburger $8 a pound (I buy bison instead for another $2, lower fat, tastes better). Romaine lettuce? price doubled. And so on.

Diesel is STILL $4.50/gal locally.

In the words of Resident Alien “this is some bull$hit!”

That must’ve been too embarassing, even for AP. Here’s the new headline =>

Recession is the sure way to fix inflation quick, and that is the tool the Fed has in its box. They can’t drill, change tax/spend/sanctions laws, but they are assigned the duty on inflation, so I’m guessing they’ll get inflation down via credit defaults and then job losses. We shall see.

Gas prices are falling because Biden is depleting our Strategic Oil Reserves. Once empty, then in order to refill them the Biden Admin will compete with the American Citizen for the new oil driving the price higher.

The only thing more evil than Democrats destroying the Trump economy is the “conservatives” wanting a recession to fix things.

Would be swell if republican leadership could put a coherent message together about Biden trying to influence an election by draining the SPR. There hasn’t even been a hurricane this year, there is no excuse for the SPR to be at 40 year lows.

Eventually the Strategic Petroleum Reserve will be depleted. It’s not like gas, oil, and coal in nature. So “eventually” is not thousands of years. Perhaps one year, admittedly just a guess.
