But Charles II ruled over the Restoration after the downfall of Cromwell and the Puritans. There was a big resurgence of the arts.

For however long he reigns we get to use the descriptive term of “Carolingian”. For a history buff that’s almost worth the price of admission.

But Charles II did go after the ones who executed his father. He had Oliver Cromwell’s body dug up from its grave, hanged and beheaded, and Cromwell’s head put on a spike on Westminster Hall. Years later someone took and hid it. It turned up in the 1960s and was then buried somewhere on the campus of Cambridge University.

TDS of the seventeenth century.

He could just add a inner city twist to his name and be either LaCharles or DeCharles.

Some of those who signed the death warrant escaped to America. They lived under false names. Some of them hid in a cave for a while.

Yeah, I already alluded to that. Trump has not been a choirboy in his private life either. So what? Charles II was a great KING.

They had it coming, and I’m glad he dealt out some justice.

Cambridge, huh. It figures. Whigs prevail there, as they do on this board.

The Globe and Mail in Toronto says George VII, the Telegraph says Charles III confirmed.

A very well-known Play and then film titled "King Charles III" tells the story of Charles ascending after Elizabeth's death and, since he is unable to give the royal assent to a censorship Bill, he dissolves Parliament before it can change the law requiring royal assent.

Riots ensue.

William (and especially Kate) then conspire to force abdication, with them BOTH then being crowned (a la William and Mary). Harry, interestingly, is semi-alienated because he's in love with a black girl.

I strongly recommend watching the whole thing for anyone interested in the Royal Family or the monarchy of the UK.

The Windsor clan united with the Stuarts when William was born, I thought. I thought Diana Spencer was part of that family tree (Stuart’s)

We better hope he isn’t George III, although maybe Biden will have him hire Hessians to fly those F-15s…

That’s true. From two illegitimate sons of Charles II, I think. King Charles was a deathbed convert to Catholicism. A complex man, but not a bad one, as men go. I have his portrait in my dining room. No, I am not a descendant, legitimate or otherwise, but I’d be proud to be.
