Enlisted airmen who work in some of the Air Force's most difficult jobs will receive from $900 to $5,400 less annually beginning next month as the service faces financial challenges that affect the ranks.
Hundreds of service members will see cuts to their Special Duty Assignment Pay, known as SDAP, in fiscal 2023 -- which starts Oct. 1. Those monthly payments, ranging from $75 to $450, were an extra incentive "to compensate enlisted service members who serve in duties which are extremely difficult," according to budget documents.

To avoid the cuts, lawmakers would have to reinstate the Special Duty Assignment Pay difference in the 2023 budget proposal before it's approved by Congress...

Air Force Recruiters are set to lose their $75 in special duty pay each month for fiscal 2023, which would add up to nearly $900 a year in lost wages.

They have to pay for these enlistment bonuses somehow.
Well, except the Marines, they’re not really increasing theirs.

Illegal aliens still get more money than the enlisted military.
Cutting bonuses for First Sergeants is going to make commanders lives a lot more difficult. A lot.
Recruiting has become very difficult.
Cutting the pay should surely help.
“Well, I was not going to enlist, but the pay cut motivated me to enlist after all.”
If a hostile group took over the US Govt for purpose of destroying the US, what would they do any different?
In the late 70s I served in italy. I did not get overseas pay because they said we were in a safe zone. I volunteered for the base demo team because they said we had 20 minutes if a war broke out. Kind of confusing why no overseas pay if we had to worry about abandoning the base and blowing up the runway if we were in a safe zone.
One would expect a hostile group to deplete U.S. oil reserves and make deals with China, Iran and Venezuela, while striving to put U.S. energy producers out of business. Anyone who expresses concern about these activities would be labeled radical extremists.
Never mind who’s going to fly the F-15’s!
Who’s going to maintain, fuel & arm them? Or select and designate targets?
Those are the ones more apt to get cuts, I don’t see pilots on the list.
“what does “Special Duty” mean?”
Jobs that suck (more than most military jobs), or are more hazardous for one or many reasons.
This is just a way to prevent people from leaving when their enlistment is up.
These are not all combat related, they’ve been around for a long time. We had them when I was in the USAF in the ‘80’s.
My Father got special duty pay in WWII. He was in the Army Quartermaster Corps in the Pacific.
He was a diver, the hard helmet type, who primarily worked at clearing wreckage and prepping piers in recently taken harbors. He mentioned it as ‘hazardous duty pay.’
Gotta pay for the high maintenance hanger queen F-35s some how.
Thanks for that.
LOL...No!
I was smart enough to make staff as a first termer. WAPS testing program. 5% of every AFSC got promoted. Unfortunately the Security Police didn’t have enough ‘leaders’ so they promoted 50% of them. Totally unfair. Morale was so low amongst them that they gave them berets and made them blouse their pants. Talk about stupid. Then they broke the job up into 3 specialties. One was law enforcement. The other had to do with dogs. One guy(2nd termer) wined “I’ve been chasing a dogs ass for 5 years”.
Ping
Try Lufthansa.
Meanwhile illegals and terrorists are being allowed into the country thanks to the FU Biden Admin and they’re given $$$ of our taxpayer dollars.
Are you sufficiently pissed enough at the enemies within including 90-95% of the US Congress who sit silently playing with each other & getting $$ under the table while our nation and the US military is being destroyed?
How’s recruitment going these days, military dipsh*ts?!
And to think these are the same mofos who are continuously gaslighting Russia and China. Bravado and hubris don’t win wars/conflicts; they only lead to one getting their asses kicked, and personally and imho, as an ex-PJ, we need an ass kicking.
Hat tip to COP. Luftansa still operates 747s on a regular schedule(so it seems in 2022):
