On Auburn University’s campus and in the nearby neighborhoods, some women and coeds can be seen running alone in the predawn hours. I was often 10-12 at Peet Theatre and one solitary young woman ran by EVERY morning at about 4:40 am. Auburn’s Lauren Burke case should serve as a warning.
She’s a TEACHER!! She may not have 2 pennies.
More to this story than meets the eye. Maybe she had HERSELF kidnapped!
Shades of "Fargo"?
Billionaire heiresses who love to jog in the dark should be living in gated communities with 24/7 security.
Apparently common sense is not that common.
Auburn’s Lauren Burke case should serve as a warning.
It won’t.
If you want to wake up at 4 am to exercise fine. But you don’t run in Memphis at 4 in the morning. She was abducted on Central Avenue beside the University of Memphis.
On the other side of the University of Memphis is Orange Mound, a pretty rough neighborhood. When looking for a daycare for my kid we checked out a place near the university. You could see an apartment building across the train tracks, which is at the edge or Orange Mound.
A man who lived in those apartments was asleep in his bead when a bullet came through the window and killed him. Then I thought what if it were daytime and the bullet went the other way into the kids’ playground? I passed on that daycare.
Then not too far from campus is a nice shopping center and a Panera Bread. A student was walking there to study and get something to eat when he was held up at gunpoint. He shielded himself with his backpack and heard shots, but he was not hurt. When he got to Panera Bread and pulled out his laptop it had a bullet lodged in it.
Then I live as far from the ‘hood as you can get. One night I heard 5 rapid pistol shots. Well there went one of the neighbors. You can still see the spot where they bleached the blood off his driveway.
You don’t jog at 4 in the morning in Memphis. Not in the good areas, not in the rich areas, not at the university, you just don’t do it.
I live near a small town with a state university. See young women jogging/running—all with headphones/earpods. How can they have any situational awareness?
lesbian?
they don't...just like the young guy with the $5000 rolex walking in the city with his head in his cell phone when two animals come up and simply take his rolex....
don't feel sorry for him one bit.
Not living in Memphis would appear to be the best course of action.
Then I’m jogging in Memphis
Was jogging with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Says she’s 5-6
I’m with the guy who said that with that kind of money he’d live in the Swiss Alps.
I wonder what these two were recovering from? That doesn’t always work.
She doesn’t look 137 lbs in that case.
No boobs, no butt, and very lean.
Looks more like 117 to me.
"this could be a lot more complex I mean, it's not just, it might not be just, such a simple you know"
The article is a bit deceptive. The $3 billion is in annuals sales of the family company. Not this couple’s net worth.
The family has many members and my grandmother was friends with some of them beginning in the 1920’s. Grandma lived about 100 yards away from where this woman lived. The couple goes to the same church my parents go to (an old Memphis money congregation). The abducted woman taught kindergarten at the most expensive private girls’ school in town.
I know this old Memphis money stuff like the back of my hand. I was unfortunate enough to have to deal with them growing up.
The neighborhood where the abducted woman lived is a nice area, but not exceedingly wealthy.
Most of the people in Memphis who have money are here because either their professional practice is here, a family business is here, or they have been hired by FedEx, Medtronic, Autozone or Smith and Nephew. They have second homes usually in Heber Springs, AR and/or Destin, FL.
bflr
True. OCD personalities.
Beautiful woman.
Hope she is found alive.
Could be a kidnapping for ransom.
