My girlfriend is friends with her mother. The abducted woman teaches, or taught, at a school just a short walk from where I live.
The woman lived in midtown Memphis, which is a nice area, well sort of. If you grow up there you have to be mindful of the child molesters. We were told never to get in anyone’s car, even if they have a gun, and go to the nearest large street. Well, she got into someone’s black SUV, why is a mystery.
Even given that, she started off jogging at no later than 4 in the morning and jogged all the way out to the University of Memphis, where she was abducted. It’s not a bad area, relatively speaking. That is halfway to my house, about a 30 minute jog.
Why the sam h$ll anyone, let alone a young woman, would start out jogging that early in the morning before the sun comes up is completely crazy. If you are out after dark in this city you pack a pistol or revolver.
It’s as if she was asking for trouble. Or she was so addicted to running, yes you can be, that any rational thought just went out the window.
Sorry, what does that mean?

The article makes it seem there were witnesses to a 4:20am abduction who did not call police, although they spoke to police after she was reported missing much later.

What rational woman jogs alone at 4:30 am? Especially if she has the money to pay for armed security to follow her.
Overton Park is the “central park” of Memphis - quite large and nice green space. It was surrounded by lovely 19th century mansions. It was an OK neighborhood, quite popular with yuppies and the granddaughters of billionaires. One would assume she lived nearby if she is out jogging there at 4:30 AM.
But memphis neighborhoods could change almost block-to-block.
Am curious what it looks like today.
I live in a very low crime area, but my 60+ wife wouldn’t go jogging in the dark! So...younger, pretty white woman with access to lots of money goes jogging at 4:30 AM in Memphis? Is she suicidal?
PS: Around here, she’d be more in danger from rattlesnakes than thugs, but still....

Yes. I ran early morning a couple of times but it gave me the creeps so I didn’t do it again. And the Daily Mail article said she regularly ran that route. One of the runner safety tips I learned was to change things up and not run at the same place at the same time on a regular basis. This being said, very sad.
I know three women who get up at 4am to exercise. Two are runners.

Her house was where on my newspaper route when I was a kid. From the house to the place she was abducted is a LONG way. So she started jogging EARLY.
When I first heard this on the radio it sounded like they announcer said Elija. I thought who would want to abduct a 32 year old man? Then I found out it was Eliza, a woman, and thought she had to be crazy being out that time.
Now they are looking for her body in Overton park—it’s a heavily wooded area miles from where she is abducted. You don’t go in those woods because you’re likely to see men doing things you don’t want to see, it’s a gay place so to say.
Why would they be looking for a body so far away? The Wolf River bottoms are closer, why not look there? The police must know something we don’t.
