House Incumbents Being Ousted at Record Rates; It's Worse for Republicans
msn.com ^ | 9/1/22 | Nick Reynolds

Sitting members of Congress are being ousted from their seats at record rates, with Republicans constituting the majority of losses this election cycle.

With the 2022 primary season coming to a close, 15 members of Congress have lost their seats so far this year, representing the highest degree of turnover since the Obama administration, when the Tea Party revolution and an upswing in progressive activism led to 13 incumbents losing their primaries.

Though the defeats of New York Democratic Representatives Mondaire Jones and Carolyn Maloney in late August were the races that pushed the number into record-setting territory, the brunt of losses in Congress have been felt among Republican incumbents, several of whom supported the impeachment of former President Donald Trump over his role in the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

The first election year after a redistricting cycle, according to historic election data, tends to see a higher level of incumbent turnover, often due to changing district dynamics or, like in Maloney's case, district boundaries that pit them against their fellow incumbents.

Trump's influence on the electoral environment, however, played a major factor. Of the more than a dozen incumbents to lose their primaries, nine were Republicans, with four among the few conservatives who voted to impeach the former president.

Others, like Illinois Representative Rodney Davis and West Virginia Representative David McKinley, lost to candidates backed by Trump as a result of other factors, including newly drawn district boundaries and the perception that they were too moderate to stand on the modern Republican platform.

Snip

The shift has been even more cataclysmic down the ballot. According to an analysis by Ballotpedia, 202 incumbents have lost their primaries this election cycle, eclipsing the previous 20-year high set in 2018 by nearly 60 members.

That wasn’t you?

I am shocked that there are two of you..

Okay. Saw it.
It was Oak007 with that comment about where was Trump..
They too were all in on DeSantis and a Trump complainer..

Maybe they stole your script.

My apologies for mistaking Your TDS with theirs.

Might be easier to select the 10% or so who can be counted on to consistently stand up for the American people rather than the Oligarchs who got them elected.

I don’t need to show you a poll. You made a blanket assertion that “if someone” believes a thing, they won’t be convinced otherwise. I myself was convinced otherwise. Since you made a blanket statement, a single example suffices to demolish it. The only “poll” I need to show you is my own testimony, a poll of one.

Look...here is a novel idea. We are both conservatives correct? Lets forget about these petty differences and band together to kick the Dems a$$ in November... deal? We both know it will be a fight and we can address any inter-party squabbles in the ‘24 primary.

“Driving people away with wedge issues makes the opposition stronger.”

The issue will exist and continue to be a factionalizing and destabilizing force in society no matter how hard you want to wish it away, until one side or the other wins a permanent victory. Because it is an issue on which there is no imaginable compromise that will satisfy both sides. You can’t “split the baby in half” on this one, to use a perhaps not so tasteful but very appropriate analogy.

Which is why I asked you about slavery, which you never answered, because that is the most prominent other issue of this type which had previously split our society in just the same way, for decades, until we finally achieved a permanent resolution at great cost. Just like slavery, you can’t wish this issue away, no matter how much you think it would be politically expedient.

No. As usual you have no scientific argument.

You are, after all, just cells.

Science says the following, when human sperm fertilizes human egg life begins, the life is human and it is unique. This all adds up to person.

And it is not the government telling "women what to do with their bodies". It is the government saying that murder laws apply to even the smallest human.

You just want to be able to say it is ok to kill people who are no threat to you.

That is not a healthy mental state to be in.

I am not debating abortion with you...who gives a @@@@? We have an election to win and the supreme court already ruled on it. You are not going to convince me at all, save your energy. Let’s band together and kick the Dems out in November!

I have never, do not currently and never will support slavery...what is even the point of asking that? It has nothing to do with abortion. Look, we are getting creamed right now...use this energy towards the other side. We are going to have to fight for this in November!

Noone is forcing anyone to commit abortion...its a CHOICE.

Congratulations. You are now a liar or ignorant.

Medical people are indeed being forced to either do abortions or give up their medical license. So much for choice. And you both support and think that is just peachy.

Isnt that what we are about...freedom of choice?

For there to be choice all involved must be consulted. You, like most liberals, are not in favor of that. You are in favor of the person who has the power making the choice and the rest of the people can just live with it. In other words you support slavery.

Just as long as you are not the slave.

But you will be.

You do.

You know the saying about the first person to bring up race is the racist?

Well.... the first person who starts crying about how killing babies is ok is not the good guy.

63 million is not a fringe issue. If life is fringe, then you can see how the left views you and us all.

On a related subject, how would replacement migration be going if there were 63 million more natural born Americans? H1-Bs? What if there were 63M more American gun owners? You can perhaps begin to see where a culture of death affects many thingsā€¦

I see you as a TDS sufferer..

I see your premise being when Trump wins in these MAGA vs establishment Repubs, that’s really a loss to the cause of Establishment Repubs..

MAGA is your greatest enemy.
It’s not the Dems.

You know what MAGA’s greatest enemy is?

The Repubs who claim to be conservative when they are establishment..

The old R vs D curtain con has been pulled back..
