California’s energy overseer warned of blackouts starting Wednesday and urged residents to “avoid using large appliances and charging electric vehicles, and turn off unnecessary lights.”
The state also wants those thermostats set no lower than 78 degrees.
Called a Flex Alert, the California Independent System Operator says households should “reduce energy use from 4-9 p.m. when the system is most stressed because demand for electricity remains high and there is less solar energy available.”
“The power grid operator,” the notice says, “expects to call on Californians for voluntary energy conservation via Flex alerts over the long weekend.”
And not drive anywhere, I suppose, if you’re the owner of one of the nearly half-million plug-in EVs registered in the Golden State.
I remember a night in college when it was just too hot to sleep, so I went to the parking lot, started my car, cranked the A/C to max, let it run for a bit, and then finally got some shut-eye in my cooled-off, gas-burning Ford.
Call me crazy, but you’d think that a state subject to heatwaves — not to mention those seemingly inevitable sundowns — would make itself less reliant on solar power and electric vehicles.
To be fair, the state is expecting a record-breaking heat wave from north to south. Then again, if Sacramento still took seriously the needs of its own people, it’d be building desalination plants and nuclear facilities to power them. That would take care of Cali’s two most enduring problems: Heat and drought.
Instead, the state is actively tearing down water infrastructure, even though its existing water system was built for a much smaller population than it has today. It’s eliminating power plants, too, at a time when the government is actively — and expensively — encouraging residents to switch to electric vehicles.

Folks, the goal of the EcoFascists is not to get us out of gas-powered automobiles.
Their goal is to take away our individual transportation.
The power grid is maxed out as it is.
The same EcoFascists that are demanding we all switch to EVs are the same EcoFascists refusing to allow new power plants to be built, refuse to consider nuclear energy, and are currently trying to tear down existing dams that provide hydro-electric power.
So how are we all going to charge all of our EVs?
We won’t.
Once they ban gas-power cars (and lawnmowers and motorcycles and boats), they will then...unexpectedly...have their A-Ha moment when they realize there was a slight oversight: not enough electrical output to charge EVs.
They will either place such a high surcharge on your electricity consumption above powering your home (with their reduced allowances)
Or
They will put such a high tax on the sale of EVs
that it will be too expensive for all but the wealthiest of the elites to afford EVs.
But that’s the way they want it.
Just as they hate the masses “beneath” them and want them removed from “their” planet, they first want us off of “their” roads.
Their solution will be Le Corbusier, federal-type housing in the same area where we work so that we slaves will be close enough to work to take mass transit or walk or bicycle (just like their role model, the ChiComs).
Methinks you have a very promising future in political consulting.
That was so good I am going to steal it ...
Think how many fires will be started by the EV care!!
That should be the first action.
Unless they are making efforts to massively upgrade their electrical grid, then anyone with sense should understand that having only electric vehicles will simply not work.
The previous suggestion of nuclear power plants and desalination facilities is a good one. There’s no chance at all this will happen in the foreseeable future.
I say we can get along ok with 49 or 48 states in the union. Time to cut out the cancer.
The California state authorities could encourage more energy supply, or brow beat consumers into accepting less demand. Electric, water, all is messed up in Cali.
And you know what the best irony of all is…the “citizens” will comply and they will get Blackouts anyway. And every year from here forward, the blackouts will get larger and larger and longer and longer.
Californians are in good physical shape. They can run for their lives.
I disagree. Go ahead and charge your 100K car. Who cares if the ‘little people’ have air conditioning or not. //sarc//
Walking works if you are not handicapped.
>>>Him and Nuisance. They suck big time donkey dic...s.
We love it here in Central Florida. Besides no state taxes. DeSantis has done a great job. You planning to move to a red state? Dave Rubin is over joyed with his move.
California Uber Alles!!!
This is why ALL Public Employee’s should be mandated to use nothing but Non Carbon Emitting vehicles for All Transportation
I saw saw the information on the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) web site. Well, that means I’ll be eating cold sandwiches Saturday through Monday at home. 🤷♂️
Going south? Californians fleeing to Mexico would be a turn of events no?
It’s like in Idiocracy when Frito tries to run from the cops on his battery powered go kart: “they turned off my battery”.
It’s a documentary.
Amen, I’m out no later then May 2024.
Off to the sane, civil, American regions of North Idaho.
Does not apply to the politicians. Their mansions will be cool, as they continue padding their bank accounts with kickbacks and engage in other BS.
Assuming there's enough power to run your refrigerator to keep the ingredients from spoiling. ;-)
