Taking Antibiotics After Sex Reduces STI Risk

Gay men and transgender women living with HIV or on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) who took the antibiotic doxycycline within 72 hours after sex had a significantly lower risk of gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis, according to a study presented at the 24th International AIDS Conference in Montreal.

“Using doxycycline after condomless sex has potential as an effective strategy to substantially reduce sexually transmitted infections in targeted populations with ongoing high rates of STIs,” study investigator Annie Luetkemeyer, MD, of the University of California at San Francisco, told POZ.

“This isn’t meant for everyone,” she said at an AIDS 2022 media briefing.

If you feel a need to take antibiotics after sex, maybe you need a different partner.

Sounds like a recipe for drug resistant bacteria to me.

There are a LOT of unwitting admissions in this article, which is why I posted (despite the disgusting nature of the subject.)

“...there are populations that are really suffering from the STI epidemic...”

“Guidelines recommend that people using PrEP should be screened for bacterial STIs every three months—which allows for prompt treatment—but it would be better to prevent them in the first place.”

“The study population [more than 500 men and transgender women who have sex with men] was at high risk for recurrent STIs. They had been diagnosed with an STI during the past year (69% with gonorrhea, 58% with chlamydia, 20% with syphilis), they reported a median of nine sex partners during the past three months and about 60% reported recent substance use.”

“Gonorrhea is already resistant to most medications previously used to treat it.”

“Leutkemeyer noted, people in the control group acquired STIs so often that they spent a substantial portion of time on doxycycline treatment anyway.”

“””who took the antibiotic doxycycline within 72 hours after sex had a significantly lower risk of gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis”””

This recommendation sure looks like a great way to generate antibiotic resistant strains of the above named STD’s.

Most STD's, including HIV/AIDS are becoming drug resistant, thanks to the faggots. They really give these pathogens a workout, like at the gym.

What happens when they run out of effective alternatives, which they will eventually?

Only ever having sex with your opposite-sex wedded spouse goes even further toward preventing VD.

Gays. The group that destroys their immunity system and finds new ways to adversely impact others health like hemophiliacs.

That is a great way to lead to antibiotic overuse and resistance.

There is already gonorrhea resistant strain.

There are a LOT of drug resistant strains of gonorrhea. The article admits that gonorrhea is resistant to MOST previously effective antibiotics.

The trail of the sexual revolution is littered with casualties.

This is a bad idea. It’ll only encourage drug resistance

More accurate than the mindless attacks on gays. The free love culture has caused endless trouble. Monogamy has been attacked and if only one partner is monogamous that’s how these things spread. It’s not a problem unique to the gay community. The black community has a terrible problem as well.

No, but the "gay" population (they aren't a community) has become the epicenter and sustainer of all these sexual maladies. We should shrink from acknowledging that fact.

Most concentrations of specific infections these days can be traced to queer activity by just a couple of degrees.

The epidemic of STD's has seen an exponential, unprecedented explosion in the last 7 years in the US, ironically since marriage was wholesale redefined. Homosexuals are the definitive driver of these numbers but are only 3% of the population.

With over 10 different partners in each three week period, that’s going to be a perpetual doxycycline prescription!

Exactly. If they kept it in their pants, everyone would be better off. But no, they have to boink and spread diseases.
