In anticipation of California losing 10% of its water supply by 2040, Gov. Gavin Newsom and state water officials unveiled a multi-pronged plan Thursday to adapt to hotter conditions and bolster the Golden State’s water supply in the coming years.
The 16-page plan outlines goals to target the state’s water supply by developing additional space to capture and store water, diversifying the state’s water portfolio through desalination and reducing water demand. The plan also underlines the importance of accelerating the modernization of California’s water system to replenish the water California will lose due to hotter and drier seasons.
Speaking from a desalination plant in Contra Costa County on Thursday, Newsom told reporters that the plan highlights the “renewed sense of urgency” to address the state’s water supply and sets particular numerical goals and deadlines in anticipation of harsher weather conditions.
“What we are focused on is creating more supply, what we are focused on is creating more water,”

The first thing they need to do is look realistically at this drought and consider that it could last 1,000 years, instead of whining about man caused climate change and blaming Republicans. Limiting carbon emissions is wasting resources and will not make any difference whatsoever.
If California chose to do that instead of building a train to nowhere, they would have already solved their water problems.
“developing additional space to capture and store water”
WTH does that mean? In the good old can-do days, we spoke plainly and said things like “Build more dams.”
Desalination plants are only a good idea IF you build several nuclear power plants. Otherwise, it is a non-starter.
(the desalination plants are a good idea)
Actually I agree.
Now for the movie reference:
They’d have all the salt they’d ever need! - Nick Rivers
Shasta Reservoir is almost empty. I doubt they are letting any water out now.
We drove by it in late March and it was awful.
He doesn’t want to say that because the central valley is littered with signs telling newsome to build more dams
True. Gonna need a lot of power.
Key West...the Dry Tortugas...used metal roofing and diverted rainwater into cisterns before there was a pipeline from the mainland.
Should not take over 42 yrs of environmental studies for building a dam where they took them out long ago.
I’m in CA and I’m starting to sense that because Newsom is running for President he’s finally turning his attention to the crises in CA that actually matter to people like water, fire, crime, etc. it would be too easy to beat him otherwise. He’s finally starting to build a resume or a “record” of “achievements” here in CA.
Gavin “Don’t call me stupid” Newscum just parrots crap that the radicals tell him to.
All the reservoirs were full after the 2019 winter deluges. Then dopey let the feds drain them and voila...no wa wa.
Good Point. How are they going to power the desalt plants?
He’s still Governor Lockdown!
And he can never refute that.
Those Oregon water laws are ridiculous.
What, no urine this time? I guess that didn’t poll well the last time.
None of these things will happen. Everything depends on “environmental impact”.
