~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Fort Sill, Oklahoma Fort Sill is a United States Army post north of Lawton, Oklahoma, about 85 mile southwest of Oklahoma City. It covers almost 94,000 acres.
The fort was first built during the Indian Wars. It is designated as a National Historic Landmark, and serves as home of the United States Army Field Artillery School as well as the Marine Corps' site for Field Artillery MOS school, United States Army Air Defense Artillery School, the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade, and the 75th Field Artillery Brigade. Fort Sill is also one of the four locations for Army Basic Combat Training. It has played a significant role in every major American conflict since 1869. The United States Army Field Artillery School (USAFAS) trains Field Artillery Soldiers and Marines in tactics, techniques, and procedures for the employment of fire support systems in support of the maneuver commander. The school further develops leaders who are tactically and technically proficient, develops and refines warfighting doctrine, and designs units capable of winning on future battlefields. The 434th Field Artillery Brigade is a training/ artillery unit under the United States Army Fires Center of Excellence, a formation under TRADOC. The brigade conducts Basic Combat Training for new enlistees in the U.S. Army. 434th Field Artillery Brigade conducts reception operations and Basic Combat Training by integrating and transforming civilian volunteers into disciplined, motivated and fit Soldiers in order to provide the Army with competent and confident warfighters willing to live the Army Values. Another special detachment is the Field Artillery Half Section, an eight-man group representative of the "flying artillery" which was drawn by a team of horses (the Half Section has eight horses – all named after former commanding generals of Fort Sill) around the turn of the 20th century. The Half Section was established in 1969 to celebrate Fort Sill's Centennial. The Soldiers are volunteers for the show group, while the horses, their equipment and transportation are provided through charitable donations. The popular Half Section has appeared in regional parades, local festivities, change of command ceremonies and a presidential inauguration parade. Learn More About Fort Sill HERE!! FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT~Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
Please remember: The Canteen is a place to honor and entertain our troops. The Canteen is family friendly. Let's have fun! We pray for your continued strength, to be strong in the face of adversity. We pray for your safety, that you will return to your families and friends soon. We pray that your hope, courage, and dignity remain unbroken, so that you may show others the way. It was a great day up till the moment I heard about the raid on Mar A Lago. Now I’m angry. LOL!
Hope your day was better.

I thought about the raid right after I hit “post” and figured that’s what has you steamed, as it does all of us.
It’s been a pretty good day here. I managed to get the grocery shopping done without messing my back up again, though it’s a bit sore at the moment. Nothing like Saturday night at least.
Been outside watching a “light show” as a storm slowly creeps up this way. We’ll see if it holds up long enough to give us some rain.

Oooo....I hope it does give you some rain. That would be awesome. Maybe it’ll also give you some cool lightning pics.
No rain here even though it was cloudy part of the day. It was definitely more pleasant at 95 than it has been for weeks. Right now it’s 86 and for the rest of the week will be 93 or less. WooHoo!
At least 1/2 of America is mad right now. LOL! It’s hard to wrap your brain around what they just did to a former president.

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Lauren for the visit to my part of the country.
A a lifelong Southwest Oklahoma resident, I know Ft. Sill very well. It's one of the best if not the best outstanding military installations in the country. Now a part of "Latwon-Ft. Sill as a matter of fact.
Lot's of good info too.
How's everyone doing this morning?

It's still sitting just south of the TN/AL state line and probably won't move up here. The next two days are promising for rain as the cold front moves through.
Glad to hear you're going to have some decent temps there for a change. 'Bout time!
I did get a couple of cool lightning shots earlier. Got one snapshot of the moon and the clouds as some lightning popped off ...
I zoomed in a little for video and the next two shots are the same bolt a split second apart ...

Yesterday at Comanche Lake:
As you can see here the lake is very low. We haven't had much rain in awhile.

Wow! Those are excellent! Glad the lightning finally cooperated even if it was a way’s off. The moon is stunning, too. It’ll be full in about 3 days, but it already looks pretty darn close.

Howdy, EGC! ((hugs)) Hope y'all get some rain soon. I'd hate to see the lake dry up. Gizmo would be very unhappy. I love this of him....wanting to get on down the road!

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))
Wow! The lake really has dropped a lot! Y’all need some rain bad! It’s surprising to see everything so green under the circumstances.
It looks like Gizmo had a lot of fun roaming around.

Thanks. It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to get lightning shots. The lightning seems to always stay inside the clouds lately rather than throwing some bolts.
Full moon Friday night. We don’t have rain in the forecast then so we should have a nice view of it for a change.
Unless the forecast changes between now and then.

Well, truthfully, I’d take rain over the moon. We can see it any time. LOL! But I do love a full moon.
Guess I’d better get to sleep. I keep staying up later and later. Yep...turning into at least a mini-vampire. :) See ya tomorrow!

It’s a shame you didn’t get rain with the front coming through. At least you’re getting cooler temps out of the deal.
You’re going to be a full-fledged vampire like me at the rate you’re going. LOL Sleep well. Catch ya tomorrow.

Howdy, howdy Early Birds!
Isn't this a fun road trip?
Straight up [or down] I-44 to Lawton.
Ft. Sill has a beautiful campus.
And it's very historic, too.
Hope all y'all have a Terrific Tuesday!
It's "only" 89 here right now. Yay!
(((hugs)))

A long time ago, I fired howitzers there at advanced individual training.

Funny, had a Scout plt roommate in Germany, Idi Amin, (huge black guy named Edye) was shorted a couple months on his enlistment contract of his promised time at Ft. Polk.
EVERY formation when the plt sgt would ask if there were any questions, Idi would ask “When I gonna get my two months at Foht Poke?”
He was a good guy, drove a 113 like a maniac, LOL.
They finally sent him back to Polk two months early and he ETS-ed there.
