When President Donald Trump takes the stage at a major conservative conference in Dallas on Saturday he will likely have just received a boost to his 2024 plans in the form of a straw poll that will almost certainly rank him as the clear favorite among attendees.
But that is not the end of the story as far as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose star has been on the rise this year.
Attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference want him first to continue the work he is doing in Florida before taking up the national MAGA torch in the 2028 election.

Soccer moms as a concept has ceased to exist. Now, that kind of mom no longer has the luxury of being a distinct class, but are struggling with gasoline prices and inflation like everyone else.
What, pray tell, is wrong with that?We don't know.
Some people, maybe too many people THINK they know but... With Trump we have a former President (not a politician, not a former Senator, Congressman, Governor, federal employee)-(repeating myself until it sinks in)- with a record of accomplishing more in one term than any President in anyone's lifetime.
Or, MAYBE, a governor who's record as a governor is admirable but really nothing above and beyond what should be expected of a GOP Governor. Sometimes snarky, squints, a little cocky.
A former Congressman that helped pass some of Trumps plans and named some Post Offices. (what would he have accomplished without Trump as President?)
Not to mention his recent welfare/socialist plan of sending $450.00 from overpaid taxes for each (selected) child? Some say that was his wife's idea. What other programs will she have influence over?
He also took some swipes at Trump when he was campaigning for Governor (Lou Dobbs took issue with that at the time).
EXCELLENT headline and thought process.
Trump 2024, Desantis VP, in 2028 Desantis for 8 yrs, and Don Jr as VP, lets keep conservatism going.
I see people on this site constantly speak about Trump’s “baggage.” Could you specify one or two burdens? I mean, he has a stellar record of accomplishment and keeping his promises and setting goals.
OK, DeSantis is like Trump except younger, smarter, more discipline and without the p*ssy grabbing, the bumpstock ban, getting kicked off social media, the "Platinum Plan" of a half trillion dollars for black reparations, "Operation Warp Speed" (which he'll never disown), handing the country over to Fauci and Birx and letting them destroy the economy, the pardoning of Kwame Kilpatrick and Rod Blagojevich (while his J6 supporters languish in jail).
Oh year, DeSantis actually FIRES people. Need I go on?
4 more years...
desantis for florida governor 2022...
florida first!... π
I know I know, you love Trump, you supported him but now you’re not.
Not buying it, no sale Shrew.
You mean the people he surrounded himself with? "I only hire the best!"
Oh, all rhetorical stuff. Gotcha.
The state government of Florida is nothing like the swamp of DC, and the powers of a state governor are not as the powers of the POTUS. And so far, it’s been the liberal media trying to tout DeSantis as if they want him to be the GOP establishment’s next “designated loser”.
ββ¦with a record of accomplishing more in one term than any President in anyone’s lifetime.β
ββββββββββββββββββββββ
Not true. That record belongs to Lyndon Johnson. Unfortunately what Johnson accomplished is still damaging America to this very day.
And when I asked βwhatβs wrong with that?β I was speaking in terms of the end result. And that is either Trump or DeSantis will be in the White House in 2025.
I agree with you. These discussions cause division.
The idea of Trump back in the WH no concern for re-election and on a vendetta is delicious. No more Mr. Nice guy placating little Mitch and his worthless minions. I’ll bet that rat Wray would be gone by the end of inauguration day.
I am with you on that. I would love to see Trump win. I think he learned a lot about who he could trust in DC.
I am just not sure Trump is the most likely to win in 2024. If it’s Trump, DeSantis or Trump/DeSantis that is the nominee in 2024, they’ll get my vote.
I know several GOPers who report that they will not vote for Trump again (DW among them). Emotion over logic, perhaps? Yup, but a politician can only make supporters shake their heads so many times.
Me, I'll support vigorously and vote (in person) for whomever wins the GOP nom.
In the meantime, I'm planning on voting in my Great State's primary for DeSantis (Yale, Harvard grad, Navy Vet (Bronze star, among other decs), courageous yet diplomatic (in the Reagan mold.)
Important to be able to discuss like this. The Left didn't take Trump seriously in 2016. They were ready in 2020. Now we have to do the same in 2024. Or we'll lose again.
Right now I cannot say whether Trump will be able to win MI, NH, PA in 2024. He needs to win those states or he'll fall just short.
Trump’s running mate (whoever it may be) may differ on whose “turn” comes in 2028.

FICTION | AGAIN |
The Left is already smearing DeSantis. They nicknamed him "DeathSantis" for crying out loud and accused him of murdering every elderly Floridian who died of Covid.
They're digging up everything they can on him. Problem is, there just isn't much. Harvard grad, JAG lawyer, congressman, governor. Married to his first wife.
The best they could do was dredge up some photos of DeSantis as a college student standing next to some high school girls at a party.
