I guess legislators will never be satisfied until they have protected people from every possible peril while making products more expensive and covered with labels and regulations.
Like the prosed legislation to force auto makers to put sensors in back seat to remind parents/drivers of children in back seat... seriously, anyone dumb enough to leave a child in a car is not going to be helped by such a warning.

Why not just require all battery’s to be made no smaller or less in weight that the common building brick?I can't even imagine the size of a TV remote. :)
To: Political Junkie Too
require warning labels and require that the warning labels clearly identify the hazard of ingestion "Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball!"

..NO. It’ll raise the price of batteries for everyone.
I agree. And it's a dumb editorial comment from CBS. But CBS isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer (warning: knives are sharp and can cause injury).

Amendment coming to have a legal minimum size for bullets and ammo?
Ghoulish to use a deceased child’s name in such a gratuitous way.

I’ve known for a long time swallowing batteries is dangerous. Don’t know how I found out.

... strengthens safety standards for products with button batteries ...There are a lot more buttons than batteries. Let's ban them too.

They've been doing that for a long time. Megan's law, Adam Walsh Child Safety and Protection, etc
To: GreyFriar
Wait - so this means all hearing-aid batteries have to be big now?
There goes the whole purpose of making them smaller so no one can tell. Mom will be very upset.

“So billion dollar industry will have to change and modify all of its batteries at a cost of billions and billions of dollars because a parent carelessly left a button battery out for her child to swallow.”
No. The items that use these batteries may require modification.

Will they limit the number of batteries you can own? /s? Nobody needs a high capacity assault battery!

You’re darn tootin’. Of course they could make hearing aid batteries an inch or two in diameter and use an ear lobe extender as the battery holder. And it will provide the answer to ‘such big ears you have grandma.’

Modification? Do you mean that we should all return to the 1970s where C and D cell batteries were the norm?
No thanks.
