I will argue that the intent of the import ban is not starvation of People on the mainland.
The intent is purely economic, punishment to Taiwan food merchants that supply the various prepared foods and fresh vegetables to the mainland.
In point of fact, Taiwan is in reality China. There is free flow of people and trade between the mainland and the island. Paradoxically, Taiwan also exists as a self governing entity with it’s own trade all over the world, a military, and a free population.
In recent time, many Taiwan factories on the mainland have quietly closed and gone elsewhere. Elsewhere includes the USA. Those ties are severed.
