Will DeSantis get the one-on-one shot 2016 candidates never did?
Washington Examiner ^ | July 31, 2022 | Conn Carroll

Suffolk University has a new poll out, including a question on Republican voter preferences for the 2024 presidential election, and while it is noteworthy that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is within 9 points of former President Donald Trump at 43%-34%, what is more striking is how little support the other possible candidates get.

Vice President Mike Pence is at 7%, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WV) at 3%, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 1%.

Contrast DeSantis’s strong second-place rank to where Republicans were at this point in August 2015. Trump was in front at 22%, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was at 13%, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker at 12%, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) at 7%, Ben Carson at 6%, Mike Huckabee at 6%, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) at 5%.

There was no clear alternative to Trump.

SNIP

If Trump and DeSantis do both run, Trump is going to be in for a primary fight far different than the one he survived in 2016.

Trump dealt very poorly with all these people, despite his rhetoric, and I think DeSantis - who has DC experience (he was my Rep.), military experience and an excellent legal background, will do a much better job on getting rid of the swamp.

Ideally they’d work on this together. I think Trump has grounds for massive lawsuits and even for getting criminal charges against some people in government. But he can’t do that as president, and if he tried, we’d be back to the same old situation where everything related to Trump and nothing to our problems in this ruined economy and ruined international situation. But from outside the government, Trump could be excellent in exposing all of the illegality, plots and downright treason that the Dems and various GOP sympathizers (Pence, anyone?) used to destroy him. I think he’d get a lot of sympathy and traction with this.

But in the meantime, we need a functioning government that would deal with all our problems, many of them actually resulting from the Trump sponsored shutdown and vaccination campaigns (he still won’t admit he was tricked and he was wrong, even though Birx is boasting in her book about how she lied to him and tricked him, aided by Pence).

Our country is in need of serious housekeeping, and also serious economic rebuilding as well as restoration of our Constitutional system. A tall order for anybody, but I think DeSantis…who also has a better track record on picking advisers and associates…could at least make a start on it.

Only one gratuitously offensive one, no. 10.

Don't hide behind your mamma's skirt, if you want to speak about me ping me. If you agree with these noobs and their disruptive threads then say it. This has been going on for weeks. There have been numerous attempts to talk this TDS clown show back from the ledge and it fails. This is still Trump Country. You and they will just have to learn to live with it.

When that many people hate Trump, he’s rendered hobbled. He had 4 years to try and play their game and win but his ego got in the way. Thanks for the things he did accomplish and someone else’s turn.

Agree. Trump-DeSantis ticket would wipe out the Dems.
Unless they cheat more than last time.

HOW MANY TIMES AND WAYS CAN THIS BE DISCUSSED.

DeSantis said he WOULD NOT RUN IF PRESIDENT TRUMP RAN.

Do some voters think that if we discuss this EVERY DAY, it will change the outcome?

Wrong again.
Trump is at the tail end of his Political Career.
DeSantis is really just beginning.
Does DeSantis really want for Trump to rough him up by running against him?
After all, Trump dirtied up another Governor from Florida not that long ago
(Jeb Bush). As a result, Jeb will NEVER be President. Trump roughed him up
real good.
If Trump runs in 24, DeSantis won’t run.

A distraction from getting things done. There are enough independent voters that will never vote for Trump but will vote for DeSantis. It has nothing to do with ideology and everything to do with dislike of Trump his personality.

Trump, if he wants it.
OR
DeSantis if he has a Florida Gov replacement.

There are no others.

The list of Stooges presented are all ZERO possibilities.
They have no popular support.

Florida needs DeSantis and this American Republic needs Donald J. Trump as president. Florida is a swing state and with all of the liberal flight into Fla, it is imperative that DeSantis stay another term as gov. Fla is one election away from becoming a blue state. DeSantis is the equivalent of Trump in being THE strong governor that is making a huge difference in administrating and governing this key state. DeSantis needs experience and influence to carry him to the White House where he can continue to take care of America and her citizens when Trump leaves office. Of course, both sides have their shills working to shape the presidential election and if they succeed we will become a permanent communist, globalist, subservient nation that once was a great Republic of freedom loving people.

No thank you. I’ve engaged with enough of your type and you’re impervious to civility or reason.

There is no one on this forum who admires DonaldTrump more than I do. aT LAST we brought a knife fighter to a knife fight. Unjustly and seditiously persecuted by traitors to the republic. A flawed man, but a truly great leader.

That said, unlike the rats we have young people on our bench. Myself I like DeSantis. I see in him much of the benefits of trump,
But he’s young and lacks some of the unnecessarily rough edges Trump presents.

But the difference between you and me is I understand and respect the good faith nature of the opinion of people who disagree and think we need should go with Trump. There’s merit to that position; I just disagree with it. You won’t find me making vulgar statements about hands in pants, and the notion that anyone who disagrees suffers from TDS is just lazy
