WASHINGTON — If it’s Friday. ... The University of Michigan releases its Consumer Sentiment Index. ... Senate Republicans tank a bill aimed at helping veterans exposed to toxic burn pits. ... The House passes the computer-chip bill, sending it to President Biden’s desk for his signature. ... Next week features big primaries in Arizona, Michigan, Missouri and Washington state, plus that constitutional amendment referendum on abortion in Kansas. ... And farewell NBC’s Pete Williams; we are going to miss you!
But first: If Republicans blow their chance to win control of the U.S. Senate — in this political environment — they will have one person to blame:
Donald Trump.
That’s the clear takeaway from a pair of Fox News polls showing Democrat John Fetterman leading Republican Mehmet Oz by double digits in Pennsylvania (47%-36%), and Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., ahead of GOP challenger Herschel Walker by 4 points in Georgia (46%-42%), though that’s within the poll’s margin of error.
In the gubernatorial contests, Democrat Josh Shapiro leads Republican Doug Mastriano by 10 points (50%-40%), and incumbent GOP Gov. Brian Kemp is up over Democrat Stacey Abrams by 3 points (47%-44%), which is also within the margin of error.
Why are Trump’s fingerprints all over these GOP deficits? Well, Trump personally handpicked Walker to run against Warnock, which kept other Georgia Republicans out of the race.
And in Pennsylvania, Trump’s late endorsement of Oz carried the celebrity doctor — barely — across the primary finish line over establishment fav David McCormick. (Had Trump not endorsed Oz or simply withheld an endorsement, it’s likely McCormick would have been the nominee.)

And the narrative: if only the Republicans had nominated the Establishment-preferred pantywaist, then the Democrat would be behind in the polls.
But of course, if a Democrat is behind in the polls, we NEVER hear about it. It's always "too close to call" or "within the margin of error"
So predictable.
Yeah Dr. Oz was a radical choice Chuck Todd.
here in maryland, i do not expect the maga candidate to even run, let alone win.
I’ll take a 145 - 10 record over five Mediacrat hacks any day of the week.
When the Miraculous Victory comes in, thy'll just point to their Narrative to "explain" it.
Second most fair and secure "election" in US history...
Because everyone wants MOAR XIDEN!!
We need to win all the races. No second chance.
The mem is now on deck that Trump will lose us the senate.
By trying to primary RINOs he’s supposedly gone a step too far.
The GOPe is licking its chops, “Oh boy, we’ll get him now! People will
Finally understand!”
Understand what? Understand that doing things their way meant the
Democrat’s agenda was always implemented no matter who had the
majority?
Yeah, nobody knew that…. /s
Yep it seems that the polls frequently seem to show the Democrat with stronger support than election results show.
I well remember 2016, where poll after poll showed Hillary well ahead. Some polls state by state, showed her racking up over 350 electoral votes in a landslide projection. Yet we all know what happened in 2016.
I think polls can well be “tainted”, in that, the sampling procedures can be tweaked, to produce or magnify a desired result.
I’ve also heard, that polling itself is suspect nowadays, as so many people no longer have a landline phone, and so many people don’t answer their phones, so that polling firms just aren’t getting a true random sample anymore. Which in turn gets into issues of the sampling itself being tweaked to report a result which will make someone happy.
Well, it’s doubtful Herschel Walker is going to win in Georgia. But that is not the GOP losing a senate seat; it is the Dems holding one.
Oz will likely lose in PA, so that will be the loss of a GOP seat (Toomey is retiring).
I think the Dems lose the Nevada seat currently held by Masto.
The senate will stay 50/50 or the GOP will end up with 51.
We have some problems, but it’s not Trump.
Walker and Mastriano were winning their primaries anyway.
Many reasons to believe Oz’s primary opponent would be a loser.
The real problems are people, On the left as well as here on FR, who vote or stay home based on a lot of reasons other than the policies.
They can get people who hate what’s happening in the country to vote the opposite way because they’re convinced Walker is crazy, that Oz really is from NJ, and that Mastriano is “far right”.
Meanwhile their states and the country go to hell.
If I’ve learned anything in my 50+ years on the planet, its that people who constantly whine about cheating are just losers. Plain and simple. When they win, they celebrate. When they lose “well the other guys cheated.” Those are the other kids we all hated being around when we were young. Yet here we are. And thats what this board is turning into. A whine-fest.
Here’s a little insight for you. Walker and Oz are terrible candidates. Period. Trump endorsed them and got them the nominations, and they stink. And if they lose, its because they stink, and not because anyone cheated.
I love these clearly delusional headlines....Trump and MAGA still living rent free in liberals minds across the nation.
The entire piece is based on the premise someone else would beat the current opponents if the Trump endorsed candidate wasnt there. Anythings possible and to be fair these arent two of Trumps greatest picks .... but theres no guarantee Trump had anything to do with the potential loss. What a strange thing to bring 5 “journaists” in on. Trump track record is pretty good backing candidates. cant win them all.
45 is many miles ahead of EVERYONE in terms of successful endorsements but yeah I guess he’s a big failure??
The late Harlan Ellison (wrote for Star Trek etc.) said when you see several authors on a screenplay it means the studio didn't get quality from one and had to rush in script doctors to add and subtract until it was sort of presentable. But never a good piece of writing if several names on it.
Im in Massachusetts- whats a MAGA candidate?
The National Barack Channel has nothing but
Insane Lefties .
The GOPe doesn’t mind losing as long as the Uniparty retains the seat.
