Less than a week after the entire police department in Kenly, N.C., announced its resignation, citing a “toxic” and “hostile” work environment, elected officials from the town of about 2,000 residents have gone silent on a plan for law enforcement moving forward. The July 20 mass resignation of the department’s police chief, four full-time officers and two town clerks, who are all white, came less than two months after the town hired a new town manager, who is Black, leaving many critics to question whether race was at the core of the department’s sudden collapse.

Kenly’s town attorney, Chip Hewett, told Nexstar’s WNCN, a local television station, that the current situation is unlike anything he has ever witnessed in more than two and a half decades representing cities.
“I’ve seen resignations from politicians and the mayors and the council members. I have seen employees resign,” said Hewett. “I’ve never seen a resignation where it’s an entire department.”
Mayor Hales said another emergency meeting will take place this week, either Wednesday or Thursday — and this one will be open to the public.

How? That is the problem, no specifics, no details, no one is talking except that the white workers want the black boss fired. And in an area historically known for racism.

In small towns like that the mayor is generally a part time job without a lot of authority. A city manager takes care of the nuts and bolts of running the town.
I don’t think they resigned because the town manager was black. I think they resigned because he was a fascist liberal @$$hole. Prove me wrong.
There was a report, midwest or somewhere similar happened when a new fire chief was hired, and it turned out, if I recall correctly, that the old regime was upset that husband/wife and all of the inbred community was exposed, they quit, tried to lay blame when the wanted their cozy corruption left uninterrupted.
There's definitely more to this story, especially as no one wants to spell out any details. They are just unhappy with the change and they quiting is solution. I'm sure at the end of the day there are others who would be happy for the work.
No, it’s what happened. This is why we have the 2nd amendment. The citizens are now responsible for their personal safety. If you thought 400 cops could prevent a murderous psycho in 77 minutes, then god help you. Open carry in Kenly will be the only positive response by its citizens.

Pretty easy. I’ve seen squadron commanders do it in 2 weeks. One did it in 2 days. When someone is toxic enough, it doesn’t take long to figure out “We’re all screwed!”

I realize most around here believe that there has never, ever been a case when a minority or a woman has ever been hired or promoted on merit, but based on the article she appears to have been qualified.

It’s a bit rare that a town of 2,000 hires a city manager...I’ll lead off with that comment.
Second, I’d ask what the income level of ‘tickets’ is to the town’s income, and if there was a lot of police harassment going on. I’m saying this because I’ve seen communities wrecked in the past decade where cops were hired to just hand out tickets.
Finally, just wondering if the town had a true need for five police?
Who is going to provide “details” on a toxic racist? AND get those details published? Waiting for the MSM to discuss Hunter’s laptop?
That’s my point. The title makes one think they quit just because she is black. It’s BS.

Some details would be nice. Could be as simple as a snowflake Police Chief not wanting to answer to a woman but we won't know until the facts come out.
Are and how the quiters related? Are they multi-generation, family-based employees? What apple cart was upset when she was hired? And she was hired by the city so they knew or should have known what they were doing. And I don't see anyone questioning their decision or reason for hiring her or anyone. What were her marching orders?
I don’t know but it sounds like the last guy who was white was obviously unable to play well with others. This woman just started. I’d say if she can improve over the last dude, maybe they’ll have success.
I saw the chief on Fox a couple of days ago. She got in his face on day one, wrote him up for not being at his desk at 8:00 am even though he was in the lobby getting coffee. Wrote him up for "socializing" with citizens in a town of 2000 that he grew up in. Wrote him up for speaking to town council members without her permission, etc. In short, she is a monster bitch in any color and should not have been hired due to her history of the same behavior. The real story is how she got hired. I didn't know much about that.

They’re not “doing nothing”...they’re busy researching all the loopholes and technicalities of their union contracts to maximize their retirement benefits. It’s only fair that they make more in retirement than they made when they were pretending to work. It’s the only thing that motivates our “public servants”.
