Mulvaney: I Hope Trump Doesn’t Run — GOP Doesn’t Need His ‘Baggage’
Breitbart ^ | 19 Jul 2022 | PAM KEY

Posted on 07/20/2022 7:48:10 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

Former Trump acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said Tuesday on “CNN Tonight” that he hoped former President Donald Trump doesn’t run for president in 2024.

Anchor Laura Coates asked, “If he were to run for re-election yet again, we don’t know if he intends to do that. If he is the RNC nominee, do you intend to vote for him?”

Mulvaney said, “I am one of those Republicans who hopes the former President Trump doesn’t run. In all fairness, we don’t need him anymore. He changed our party. We have a lot of folks, a new generation of folks, Ron DeSantis, Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, go down the list of folks who could give us the same that Donald Trump gave without the baggage. As a Republican, I am thinking if the election were on today and Joe Biden was the nominee for the Democrats or Kamala Harris or Gavin Newsom, there is probably only one mainstream Republican who could lose, and that’s Donald Trump. Knowing what I know, I would be hard pressed to support Donald Trump again.”

He added, “I think we moved beyond Donald Trump clearing the field. I think that is one thing that the January 6 committee has accomplished.”

He concluded, “To the extent they wanted to wound him politically, I think that happened. There has been polling data recently, for the first time, says that a majority of Republican primary voters would prefer somebody other than Donald Trump. That’s a big change over the course ever the last six or eight weeks.”

So I am distorting that record, huh? Tell you what - let’s have a contest. You list five of Trump’s executive branch appointments that you believe were good, then I’ll list five that were bad. And let’s see who runs out of people first. The criteria we’ll use is whether Trump himself has good things to say about them. Deal?

Another GOPee punk who takes the Republican-conservative coalition for granted.

Get a load of us not showing up for your designated loser in 2024, "Punk" Mulvaney.

You guys just don't get that argument, and never have.

The point is not that we're offended. The point is that swing voters get offended, and their votes count the same as yours regardless of whether they are "easily offended sissies". If you don't care what they think, and don't care how they vote, then that's the problem.

Oh, we do get it.

Another distortion by a NeverTrumper.

The people who would get offended by Trump's tweets or personality as you like to put it, would be offended by almost anything.

They are looking for things to be offended by.

You talk about them, deceitfully so, like they are some big-sized minority group of people, when they are not, and also, they have always been offended by Trump, ergo, they have no electoral political effect on Trump or the 2024 election.

This is just another talking point used by you NeverTrumpers to try and divide and weaken Trump support.

There is no reality there, just your attempt to deceive and distory.

Its what makes you a NeverTrumper!

I agree with your take on DeSantis, but... One of the benefits of having the Trump Monster (said affectionately) out there is that DeSantis can operate in the space that Trump has created for him. So far it is working pretty well.

Personally, I have mixed feelings about Trump running in 2024. If he is the nominee, I will enthusiastically support him, but I would much prefer him as an anti-GOPe kingmaker.

That was the only thing it was intended to accomplish; and it failed.

How did Trump manage to appoint so many backstabbers?

Are there any of his appointees still loyal to him?

“I can’t remember but didn’t DJT fire him when he was in his admin.”

Yes. He was one of the very first. Remember the fiasco when the Trump admin CHANGED THE LOCKS at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) because the die-hard Obama idiot who ran it, thought it was hers FOREVER and couldnt get in?

Mulvaney got that position. He was fired from that one. Then he became chief of staff, then was FIRED AGAIN.

So this clown has a lot of anger towards Orange Man. You dont do your job once, and get hired twice and STILL couldnt do your job properly.

F him.

I eschew the term baggage.

No, but this concept is the reason I think Trump would do us a favor and not run again. I wholeheartedly favor all he has accomplished and what he intends to do if elected.

Except, he did not fight his enemies to the death the last time around and they are all still alive and intent on destroying his presidency again. I believe that America needs a president free from the constant 24/7 365 distraction of harassment President Trump refused to combat.

He can’t try to make a deal. He must attack and kill....... but he will not

Ron DeSantis, Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo,
Lumping those three together as equals sez more about what they think of DeSantis than what they think of Trump.

Speaking of baggage. If they aren't worried about DeSantis, they don't take his political antics AKA shtick too serious for a future President.

You clearly can’t see reality. Trump lost due to accumulation of baggage (too much self inflicted) and that’s only continued post office. He fell into the Dems trap. He should have won based on his record. He has done NOTHING to rehabilitate his image heading toward 2024. The Jan 6 commission is designed to keep him off the ballot but I don’t think it’ll matter.

Trump has to stop acting like a petulant child over 2020. He has to move on or too many of his supporters will move on. He always said the movement was more important than one man and he wasn’t wrong. Did he really believe it?

Milquetoast Pence is NOT an option and inspires no one. DeSantis isn’t ready, needs to focus on re-election and acts unnecessarily (the snark about support from African Americans when Musk said something nice).

If Trump is the GOP nominee, Trump will get my support again. But we need to be looking beyond Trump. He’s not young either. Who knows how he’ll be in two or six years. We don’t need a Republican Joe Biden in the White House.

We need the MAGA agenda, not a cult of personality.

Any decent candidate who is for MAGA will face the same treatement Trump did.

Exactly right. Exhibit A is the GOP candidate for governor in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The attacks on him make the LBJ attacks on Barry Goldwater, 1964, look tame by comparison.

Knowing personally some of those people myself, I disagree. That's what is so aggravating. I know people who normally vote Republican, have argued with them about why they should support Trump, and they simply don't listen. And these are not people who habitually get offended at Republican candidates who are attacked in the media.

You won't get a direct answer to that question. The overwhelming majority of Trump's high-level appointees have either turned on him, or he has turned on them. That's why I don't understand how anyone can seriously dispute that his appointment were crappy.
