Starbucks is closing 16 stores in Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
The closures are due to "challenging incidents" that make stores unsafe for workers and customers, Starbucks says.
The stores will close by the end of July.
Starbucks is permanently closing 16 locations around the US by the end of July, The Wall Street Journal first reported.
"After careful consideration, we are closing some stores in locations that have experienced a high volume of challenging incidents that make it unsafe to continue to operate, to open new locations with safer conditions," a Starbucks spokesperson told Insider. The incidents involve drug use in stores by customers and other members of the public reported by workers.
The closures are a move to make Starbucks locations safer for customers and employees, the company said, echoing a letter from senior VPs of US operations Debbie Stroud and Denise Nelson sent to employees on July 11. The company also gives local leaders the authority to close bathrooms, reduce seating, and take other measures to keep conditions safe for employees.

That trashy company could do everyone a favor by closing all their stores! It’s Java is putrid!
Hollywood and Western is just outside the chi chi area of Los Feliz. Maybe they need to build a wall... a delightful little garden wall mind you... to keep the riff raff at bay.
I used to go to a McDonald’s for coffee (and only coffee, 3-4 times a day). It was across the street from Madison Square Garden and next door to the methadone clinic. The junkies treated the McDonald’s like their group clubhouse. I’d be in and out all day, and overhear all their personal squabbles and arguing. It was always the same 12-15 homeless junkies there. The head junkie was a big fat white guy who looked like Dr. John and he appeared to have the final word on all disagreements. They’d be arguing about something stupid and he would finally speak up, “That booth is John’s!” and the fighting would stop. The whole scene was fascinating. When one of them would scrounge up enough change for a coffee, they would order it along the lines of “Medium coffee, 12 creams and 15 sugars.”
humm. didn’t somebody once say “Go Woke...Go Broke!!” funny stuff.
My guess is that the paying customers don’t really like looking out the window and seeing naked butts spewing waste products on the sidewalk that resemble in color the beverage they are trying to enjoy at $7.50 a cup.
I mean, HOW DARE YOU! Starbucks! These are your peeps that you are shutting out! You helped to create them . . .
I know managers of the Portland Maine Old Port area Starbucks.
People od and die in the bathrooms there.
Starbuck libtards help fund this crap and then run like hell at the results 🤪
Yes...Westlake used to be very nice...hope my lib friends in Seattle enjoy the suck they brought on themselves.
I haven’t paid for a starbucks in 10 years. Haven’t entered one in 5 years.
Support your local vendors.
They refuse to call it crime now!
This one is a surprise to me; however, I must admit to not having gone to downtown Seattle for years, decades maybe.
I remember when Westlake Center first opened and it was a high end mall with expensive stores in it.
OK. Here's our required Walgreen's.
We don't have a shoplifting problem in this store.
Yes. There is no inventory on hand, but the store is open, just like you ordered...
Portland, Maine is Maine’s epicenter for leftist lunacy.
Are they even allowed to have Christmas displays anymore?
Starbucks doesn’t like serving Black coffee.
Make of that what you will...

I know these 3 locations. Hollywood VIne..YOU ARE ASKING FOR IT. Right across was a Walgreen and Chase, and they were torched during the BLM riots PLUS it’s surrounded by homeless clowns ready to riot..
I remember as a kid going to the city to watch
the Christmas Parade with Santa and the Elves.
I thought you had to be wrong, Starbucks could not be that old, but Wiki says:
Founded March 30, 1971 Pike Place Market, Elliott Bay, Seattle, Washington
