The Rise of Hispanic Religious Republicans
The American Spectator ^ | July 9, 2022, 11:41 PM | GEORGE NEUMAYR

Posted on 07/10/2022 9:19:13 AM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

The New York Times is famous for its anthropological studies of conservatives — what wags have called “gorillas in the mist” coverage. The newspaper’s latest anthropological installment is “The Rise of the Far-Right Latina.” That smearing label tells us less about the three Hispanic Texas Republicans profiled in the piece than it does the paper’s hysterical liberal bias and the left’s general obtuseness. Even prosaic conservatism, grounded in the country’s history and traditions, qualifies as “far-right” to woke reporters like Jennifer Medina, who never bothers to examine in the article the “far-left” character of the Democratic Party and progressive movement that is driving Hispanics into the arms of the GOP.

Medina does correctly report that Rep. Mayra Flores and other Hispanic politicians in Texas gravitated to the GOP not because of any moderate outreach by country club Republicans but because of the party’s perennial platform in favor of patriotism, faith, and the traditional family. Flores ran on the slogan “God, family, country.” (To the Times, this is bafflingly reactionary.)

“For years, Texas Republicans tried to win the Hispanic vote using a Bush-era brand of compassionate conservatism,” Medina writes. “The idea was that a moderate’s touch and a softer rhetoric on immigration were key to making inroads with Hispanic voters, particularly in Democratic strongholds along the southern border.” But that’s not what Hispanic voters wanted, she says, observing that Flores won her seat in a deep blue congressional district by “shunning moderates” and “wearing her support for Donald J. Trump on her sleeve—more Marjorie Taylor Greene than Kay Bailey Hutchinson.”

Theoretically it made sense.
Hispanics are family oriented.
Most are fair workers.
And any many ways conservative and even traditionalist.

Slowly, perhaps too slowly for the survival of the American nation, some minorities are coming to realize that their association with the Democratic Party is self destructive.

The ones that work that is. Nearly 3/4 of them go on welfare (60 something %) and or whatever gov “freebies” they can get. The ones who do work though and want to work are very good workers, but they still need to do so legally by doing so under work visas if they wanna be respected.

Somehow, the Democrats always attract newcomers.
Democrats used to be the party of the Irish, the Catholics, The Italian.
As they became mainstream, they slowly float to republicans.

They are duped just like many others are.

Every election you should watch some Telemundo... 24/7 anti-Republican and pro Democrat drivel packaged as “news.”

The Latino voter is basically stirred up with emotional stories about the border, some “perceived” racist comment a Republican made (almost always a clip that is edited and out of context)...

It's nice to have the MSM lockstep on your side, and with the Latino voter where some have a language barrier and these social influencers (community leaders) are very important and the Democrats have a far better network, they can sway these folks. In 2016 they were telling stories of how the the jail wagon will come and pick folks up if Trump is elected, throwing them out of the country... Just nonsense, but if that's all you get to hear, and you have multiple sources telling you the same crap...

The Latino voter is NOT an LGBTQIA voter. They are not a pro-abortion or feminist voter. They are not a big tax voter (most have jobs and few live off the system)... Some of the Latino voters are Cubans who are vehemently anticommunist. Those still support the Republicans and they get screwed over by the Dems at every opportunity for that - Obama made it to where folks fleeing Cuba are not seen as political refugees. They are generally a conservative vote, but this is really a case where one side has a bullhorn blaring their message while the other side isn't heard.

I’m open to immigration, as long as we can control drugs and human trafficking.

I also think our foreign trading needs better negotiating. USA has the space for a lot more people, but we waste so much of our potential by having a corrupt control of what comes in and goes out of the country.

The more open the border, the more praise of mexicans as your heroes in the press. This year I’ve already seen more articles praising hispanics and their superior conservative values than the entire George W. Bush era.

Obtuseness? Let's call it for what it is: bigotry.

In Maine, I have a Mexican gentleman and his son do landscaping work around the property.
They’re fast, clean, efficient and darn nice people to work with.

They replaced my coworker, who came by on his time off, but needed constant supervision and direction after he “mistakenly” whacked down Hunny’s French Lilac.

Glad we made the move!

Positive message but I’ve seen a few things that make me wonder how reliable these sort of reports are.

Yesterday for example the wife and I were going through the Chinese Buffett line and I noticed 2 young (20-30) Hispanic females because they were speaking Spanish, I live in the Midwest so it’s not (yet) that common. Anyway they were wearing very similar clothes (caps, same type of shirts and pants). After they left I said I guessed they were sisters? My wife laughed and said oh no they were gay as can be. I asked her how she knew and she said right when they were directly behind me in the line (she was behind them) they started hugging and getting handsy with each other (whatever that meant).

Dang I missed out…😂.

Anyway I know being gay doesn’t exclude conservative views automatically, but generally they are flaming liberals ( a 2019 poll showed 50% vote democratic and 15% Repubs). In 2020 61% of Hispanics backed Biden, personally I think there is a little grasping of straws here.

We’d best get control of our border fast or I think in another decade conservatives will never get another POTUS. Hope I’m wrong but all these illegals WILL eventually be naturalized, you and I both know we have became too soft of a country to have mass deportations.

I don’t know if I ever met a Republican that was opposed to all immigration. As about we have more space well sure, what about housing and healthcare and social services……space is probably the least important of all resources.

If you are saying you are open to ANY immigration as we have been currently seeing under Biden then I suggest you have radical pro-immigration views.

Well, I’m not seeing too many fresh faced young things around here with honeyed words about all things conservative. What I AM noticing is my town turning back into high noon at the O.K. corral, which is where we were when Trump assumed office and then began arresting and deporting people. I’m also noticing a whole lot more areas in town where no English is spoken and a whole lot of jobs that require that applicants be fluent in Spanish. It look to me like the Chamber of Commerce won, and now we are all going to be punished for having the nerve to do an end-run around their groupthink.

Somehow, the Democrats always attract newcomers.

Same strategy as the Disney Channel, and for the same reasons.

The dems rely on the Catholic vote, that is why they changed the immigration law in 1965.
