A North Chicago police officer spotted a vehicle on US 41 matching the description of the one Crimo was believed to be driving and attempted to pull him over.
Crimo instead pumped the gas and fled in a 2010 silver Honda Fit. A brief chase followed before Crimo came to a stop and surrendered without incident, Highland Police Chief Lou Jogmen said at a press briefing.
Footage of the arrest shows Crimo’s car stopped at an intersection with dozens of police vehicles behind. He exits the vehicle with his hands up and lays face-down on the roadway at the instruction of police. Officers then swarm him with their guns out and cuff him.

I think the writer means he floored it and fled. "Pump the brakes" was once a common term and metaphor (often used after a woman asks you on the first date "So, how many kids do you want?). "Pump the gas", not so much. Maybe the reporter doesn't drive, and thinks pumping the accelerator makes you go faster...

When the dust settles, it will be shown that this idiot shot up an Independence Day parade (which is usually attended by patriotic people) in a predominantly upscale, white area at some sort of 'protest' against the Supreme Court decisions. At that point, the story will fade away.
It would be interesting to see some black politicians and "community leaders" in Chicago step up and ask why this particular Chicago shooting is getting so much attention while the daily shootings involving black victims don't get this same national media attention.
How did Crimo come to be a suspect? Has that been revealed??
The word on local radio yesterday, from local officials, was he had a large digital footprint. Additionally, he left the rifle at the scene. Was it registered to him? Did that allow LEO to track cell phone pings? Just speculating.
