the photographer who kept that photo of stalin, if the story is true, risked their life (quite literally).
the photo of the napoleonic vet is a glimpse at an early 19th century peasant (I assume not career military). I would guess he was in his 50s or 60s?

Really excellent work.
The one that grabbed me was the the German POWs.
Watching a film. Recognizing the treachery of the government they were fighting for. I think we all understand from personal experience how treacherous governments can be but what went on in Germany was beyond inhumane. It’s pretty clear from the photo that the German soldiers agreed.
