For decades, parents were the ones going out and buying products with OFF switches. And during this time, parents had no trouble tuning off and limiting the radio, TV, etc. Maybe parents' fingers have been crippled by covid and they don't work anymore.
Sure, some kids were drawn to these products, and I'm sure the dopamine rush was strong. And if memory serves me correct, American parents whined about how hard it was to raise kids with these products. Many of these same parents asked for the government to do their job, erm, regulate this content.
Sometimes the government became the parent, sometimes it didn't. Perhaps the greatest experiment where the govt stands in loco parentis is public school. What a shining example.
But it's the same situation with chocolate, cookies, toys, or any of the infinite number of distractions that get between a child and reaching his/her potential. In those cases, in the US, there is no enumerated power in the Federal Constitution granted to the government to do the parent's job, thankfully.
Looking to China (or any other government, especially a communist one) for guidance on these matters is crazy.
I assume you parents have not had anywhere near full control of their children’s computer and other screen time.
The trans issues that are prevalent in the west today is one result.
The iq and limited first level thinkers are another.
The extremist leftist emotional drama is a third.
Of course there are exceptions, e.g. A child with a medical condition or a genetic predisposition to addiction. But those are exceptions, not the rule.
Fundamentally, any instance where parents en masse ask for the state to step in to regulate X "for the children" it is a sign of parental failure.
The whole trans issue is a great example of parental failure. It's a nasty splinter. But the beam is sexual misconduct in the classroom.
For YEARS this nonsense has been going on. And yet rarely is anything done about it. That means, Mom and Dad (assuming they weren't selfish narcissists and got divorced) were oblivious to their kids being groomed by educators of the opposite sex. But the freaks made them take notice.
The recent groomer and trans sensation has (finally) riled up people, and the trans and same-sex dimension has been the magnet. Fair enough, and while same-sex educator-student abuse at about 30% of instances is higher vs this group's composition in society, opposite sex educator-student abuse at 70%+ of all misconduct remains in the majority.
I'm not asking for a miracle. I'm asking for parents to do their job.
Parents often do their jobs. the culture and screens are toxic
You seem to think that families are somehow free-floating and disconnected.
they arent
Surprised we’re not there yet here.
