Multiple people are feared to have been killed after an Amtrak train carrying 243 people derailed close to Kansas City in Missouri.
It's still unclear what caused the smash - but one imaged shared by a survivor showed what appeared to be a broken truck axle lying to one side of the tracks.

Yes, can be catastrophic either speed suddenly stopping due to a collision.
A dump truck? Not seeing that. Where is the driver?
Too many damn incidents happening....10,000 cattle is the biggest clue someone or sleeper cells are making their moves! But don’t worry the FBI has it all under control they’re Searching and looking for the real criminals grandparents, parents , J6 folk etc. etc.
Why expect a photo of truck driver? Kind of early, possibly dead, family needs to be notified etc...
Watching the KMBC video, they have shown the dump truck and the collision site very clearly, the truck was fairly obliterated and its load thrown onto the second track. If the driver was in the truck at the time of the collision, I doubt if he would have survived. A nine car train with two locomotives traveling at 90 MPH has a LOT of momentum.
Yes, trains are great. I don’t give a hoot what majority FR says.
But, Amtrak has been scaling back services for years, so you get a “box lunch” and no dining cars.
That would be a shame. Last I rode at all was long distance to Chicago, 19 years ago. (Local WI commuter service after that.). The stay is so nice. Sleepers definitely more expensive but worth it to avoid annoying coach neighbors.
I guess a semi driver was trying to beat the train. Don't... You'll lose..
Not surprised... The SWC is a popular train. Prayers to the victims... I have a friend who uses the SWC weekly...

A fully loaded Amtrak Train will stop 1 1/2 miles from the point where the engineers apply the air brakes.
Hope no one from the La Plata railfest was on the train.
I would think that most dump trucks would build up enough momentum to carry the truck off the tracks. I am not expecting to se a driver as a fatality. Who parked the truck on the tracks?

If you want to beat the cost of a sleeper, bring a pillow, blanket and ear plugs to zone out. It can be done and it is comfortable.

Of course! Just watched the update - 3 dead, two on the Train and the Dump Truck Driver. I don’t want to speculate but if it was head-on the Engineer and the Conductor.
This happened really close to where I live a couple years ago. The sound was incredible. Farther down the track the truck cab and train engine burst into flames.
That rail crossing will never open again.

Watched the opening of NBC News - a major train derailment with fatalities is THIRD on their list of stories. B/c they probably can’t find it on a map and it’s ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION 24/7.
